Senior Manager, Regulatory Inspections and Strategic Response
Company Description
We’re Checkout.com . You might not know our name, but companies like eBay, Spotify, Klarna, Uber, and Sony do, because we’re behind many of the digital experiences you use every day.
We are where the world checks out, enabling over 10 billion transactions yearly for more than one billion global shoppers.
The Role
This is a newly created role sitting at the centre of some of Checkout.com 's most sensitive and consequential regulatory moments. Reporting to the Director of External Affairs, the Senior Manager, Regulatory Inspections and Strategic Response will manage Checkout's most important regulatory situations end-to-end, whether planned or unplanned.
In practice, that means two connected mandates. The first is the planned, cyclical work of running Checkout's regulatory inspections and examinations — a methodical, deadline-driven discipline that forms the steady-state core of the role. The second is the unplanned work: leading the response to the exceptional, time-critical and commercially sensitive situations that require a calm cross-functional leader to bring them to a resolution.
You will be the person the business turns to when a regulator opens an inspection, and when a sensitive cross-functional situation needs to be stabilised quickly and handled with judgement. You will bring order and momentum to ambiguous, high-stakes matters, coordinating across Legal, Compliance, Risk, Commercial, Product, Tech and Communications, and you will own the strategy and the outcome.
This is a role with a clear mandate to build. You will establish the function, set the operating model, and over the course of 2027 hire and develop a small team of specialists to scale it.
What you'll doOwn regulatory inspections end-to-end
Act as the single accountable owner for Checkout's regulatory inspections, examinations and skilled-person reviews across the group's regulated entities.
Run each inspection as a programme: set the strategy and narrative, build and manage the timeline, coordinate evidence gathering, quality-assure submissions, and prepare and rehearse subject-matter experts and senior stakeholders for regulator engagement.
Serve as the primary point of coordination between the business and the regulator.
Protect the company's position throughout — controlling disclosures to what is necessary and appropriate, safeguarding confidential supervisory information, and ensuring the executive team and boards are informed at the right moments.
Drive continuous improvement by running post-mortems after each engagement and acting on any findings.
Lead the response to sensitive, escalated situations
Lead the response to the exceptional, time-critical situations that carry material regulatory, financial or reputation risk and need to be handled at pace.
Bring structure to ambiguity: establish the facts, set out the risk and the options for senior decision-makers, secure decisions, assign actions, and maintain momentum until matters are resolved.
Work in close partnership with the Director of External Affairs on the most sensitive matters, acting as a trusted extension of the role.
Build the function
Establish the operating model and playbooks for a new function within Checkout.com
Hire, develop and lead a small team
What we are looking for
Significant experience in managing regulatory inspections and engagement - ideally within payments or fintech
A methodical, meticulous approach to project management
A track record of keeping calm under pressure
Highly responsive, solutions-oriented and comfortable operating with ambiguity
Commercially pragmatic, with the ability to weigh regulatory and reputational risk against business objectives and to take considered, well-reasoned decisions
Excellent stakeholder management: credible with regulators and auditors, trusted by executives, and effective at mobilising colleagues across functions and geographies.
People management experience, or clear readiness to build and lead a team
Impeccable written communication
