Your Role: The Times is looking for a breaking news reporter. You will be a reporter able to file fast clean copy with a track record of covering live stories across a broad range of topics. Experience with live blogs is a must as is a keen interest in politics and foreign affairs and the ambition to land your own exclusives.

Day to day you will:

  • Cover major breaking news stories across a broad range of areas

  • Run live blogs across of range of subject areas and sections

  • Consistently deliver accurate engaging copy to strict deadlines

  • Commission visual storytelling elements such as videos charts graphics maps and designs

  • Pitch agenda-setting exclusive story ideas to the news desk

  • Help with editing the homepage where circumstances demand it

What were looking for from you:

  • NCTJ qualification masters or undergraduate degree in journalism

  • Experience filing breaking news for a national or regional news website

  • Expertise and interest in current affairs and politics

  • Attention to detail and meticulous fact-checking

  • Reliable and fast under pressure

  • A self-starter

  • Good understanding of audience data and SEO

  • A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
