The Senior Resuscitation Practitioner plays a key leadership role in enhancing patient safety, staff competence, and emergency response across the Trust. Working alongside the Lead Resuscitation Practitioner and Clinical Educators, they contribute to policy development, quality improvement, governance, and audit initiatives related to resuscitation.

Key responsibilities include assisting in the planning, organisation, and delivery of resuscitation education programs for all staff and students, ensuring high standards of education and practice. The role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and service users across all Trust sites.

The postholder will support the leadership of the Resuscitation Services team, including recruitment, staff development, and participation in research and ongoing projects. They may also deputise for the Lead Resuscitation Practitioner when required.

Additionally, the role involves active participation in local and national quality improvement audits, including the National Cardiac Arrest Audit, to drive continuous improvement in resuscitation practices. This is a cross-site position, requiring flexibility to deliver training and support across all Trust locations.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will design, deliver, and evaluate resuscitation training for all staff levels, including BLS, AED, ILS, ALS, EPALS/NLS, human factors, and simulation-based education.

They will implement blended learning approaches such as e-learning, in-situ simulation, and competency-based assessments. Specialist support will be provided to high-risk areas including critical care, emergency, theatres, and paediatrics.

The role includes leading train-the-trainer programmes, supporting clinical staff, and promoting a positive learning culture. The postholder will contribute to the Trust’s Resuscitation Strategy, ensure compliance with national guidelines, support incident reviews, and perform risk assessments.

Clinical duties include responding to emergency calls, maintaining advanced skills, participating in debriefs, and advising on equipment standardisation.

Instructor status in one of the following—ALS, NLS, APLS, or EPALS—is essential, alongside a commitment to evidence-based practice and continual development.

Person specification

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Registered Healthcare Professional (NMC/HCPC etc)
  • Educated to Masters Level or in depth current post registration experience at senior level within a wide range of experience in acute care and resuscitation practice.
  • Experience as a Senior Resuscitation Practitioner
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Level 4 course as instructor, ALS/APLS/EPLS or NLS
  • Excellent computer literacy skills including familiarity with Microsoft packages and MOSS systems, including AV equipment for conferencing/teaching
  • Experience in planning and delivering care to deteriorating patients
  • Proven track record in strategic planning, service improvement, and policy development.
  • Experience of attending emergency calls
  • Experience in delivering education in current role
  • Confident in delivery of multidisciplinary education
  • Presentation skills within formal and informal settings.
  • Ability to interact well with all members of multi-professional team with diplomacy, persuasion & tact
  • Physically capable of resuscitation training, clinical resuscitation and moving manikins and equipment as required for training
  • Use of a wide range of skills including, negotiation, arbitration, consultation, and persuasion to engage Professionals in developing and changing practice.

  • Ability to use initiative, judgement, and work independently.

Desirable criteria
  • Simulation/Debrief/Human factor qualification
  • Critical/Emergency care course or equivalent
  • RCUK Course Director (in any discipline)
