Why this role matters:

This role leads AP’s international Video Application Support team, which supports the applications and workflows used to produce, manage, and deliver editorial video and audio.

The Technology Manager will be AP’s subject matter expert for Media Asset Management systems, professional editing solutions, and the workflows and integrations that connect them. They will provide technical leadership for these platforms, guide the team’s operational priorities, and ensure AP’s video applications remain reliable, secure, and aligned with editorial needs.

The role will also be a key contributor to AP’s five-year video technology roadmap. Working with editorial, operational, commercial, and technology teams, the successful candidate will help identify priorities, improve existing workflows, evaluate future capabilities, and inform technology investment decisions.

Relevant areas include acquisition, live contribution, remote production, streaming, transcoding, content distribution, workflow automation, cloud production, and integration between broadcast and digital platforms.

What you will do:

  • Lead and develop an international team responsible for supporting AP’s editorial video and audio applications and workflows.

  • Act as the technical authority for AP’s Media Asset Management system, professional editing applications, and associated workflow integrations.

  • Lead the definition, implementation, documentation, and continuous improvement of AP’s video production workflows.

  • Evaluate developments in cloud production, live contribution, streaming, transcoding, workflow automation, and content distribution, and provide evidence-based recommendations on their potential value to AP.

  • Contribute technical and workflow expertise to decisions about camera standards and field workflows, including remote and multi-camera production.

  • Align video application and workflow design with AP’s cloud-first strategy where practical, secure, and cost-effective.

  • Partner with Network Engineering and Information Security to support the secure deployment of video-over-IP, cloud, and integrated video systems.

  • Manage relationships with relevant technology vendors and service providers, including escalations, service performance and product roadmaps.

  • Provide technical leadership during major incidents and participate in an agreed out-of-hours escalation rota.

  • Support the training and development of technical, operational, and editorial colleagues.

  • Develop business cases and budget proposals for video technology projects and investments.

  • A people leader who can set priorities, develop colleagues, and provide clear technical direction.

  • A collaborative partner who builds strong working relationships across editorial, operational, commercial, security, and technology teams.

  • A pragmatic problem-solver who can troubleshoot complex, interconnected systems and make sound decisions during major incidents.

  • A clear communicator who can explain technical concepts to non-technical colleagues and present strategic and financial recommendations to senior leaders.

  • Able to balance operational support, continuous improvement, and longer-term strategic priorities.

  • Able to travel internationally as required.

Required:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in media, broadcasting, or video technology.

  • Experience leading, managing, or providing technical direction to an application support, broadcast technology, or video engineering team.

  • Significant hands-on experience with Media Asset Management systems and professional non-linear editing platforms, such as DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere.

  • Strong understanding of video production workflows, including ingest, editing, metadata, storage, and distribution.

  • Knowledge of video-over-IP and audio-over-IP technologies.

  • A relevant technical qualification or equivalent professional experience.

  • Experience with professional camera systems, remote production, and live contribution workflows.
