Are you an experienced SEN Behaviour Mentor or someone with a strong background in supporting young people with challenging behaviour?

Academics are working with a specialist SEN school in Croydon, seeking a resilient, empathetic SEN Behaviour Mentor to support pupils aged 9–16 who require consistent, structured, and relationship-focused support.

This role is ideal for individuals who understand the complexities of behaviour linked to trauma, social disadvantage, and unmet needs — and who can build trust, set boundaries, and positively influence outcomes.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

• Behaviour mentoring or youth work
• Supporting pupils with SEMH / EBD needs
• Working with Looked After Children (LAC)
• Supporting young people at risk of exclusion, gang involvement, or exploitation
• Trauma-informed practice / ACEs
• Behaviour intervention and de-escalation strategies
• PRU, alternative provision, or specialist SEN settings
• Sports coaching or engagement-based mentoring

What we’re looking for:

• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• Ability to build rapport with disengaged or hard-to-reach pupils
• Calm, consistent, and confident approach
• Proactive mindset with strong teamwork skills
• Someone who can act as a positive role model and mentor

Your role will include:

• Supporting pupils aged 9–16 with SEMH needs in and out of lessons
• Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour
• Delivering targeted behaviour interventions and mentoring sessions
• Promoting engagement, routine, and emotional regulation
• Working closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals
