Primary School – Haringey, North London

We are delighted to invite applications for the position of Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Teaching Assistant at our vibrant and inclusive primary school in Haringey, North London. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate, dedicated, and professional individual who is committed to supporting young children in the crucial early stages of their learning journey.

Our school prides itself on fostering a nurturing, safe, and inclusive environment where children feel valued, respected, and encouraged to achieve their full potential. We serve a diverse community and place high importance on the development of the whole child—academically, socially, emotionally, and physically. The EYFS provision is central to our mission, and we are seeking a Teaching Assistant who shares our commitment to providing an engaging, stimulating, and supportive early years experience.

Role Overview

The EYFS Teaching Assistant will work closely with the class teacher and the wider Early Years team to support children in Nursery and Reception. You will play a key role in delivering a broad, balanced, and developmentally appropriate curriculum that aligns with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.

You will be responsible for supporting children’s learning through structured activities, guided tasks, and child-initiated play, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to develop skills across all areas of the EYFS curriculum. The role requires a patient, observant, and empathetic professional who can respond effectively to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of children.

This position is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic about early childhood education, enjoys working collaboratively, and understands the importance of building a positive foundation for lifelong learning.

Key Responsibilities

As an EYFS Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the class teacher in planning and delivering learning activities in line with the EYFS framework

  • Working with individual children and small groups to support learning, development, and early intervention strategies

  • Encouraging the development of communication and language skills, including early phonics, vocabulary building, and listening skills

  • Supporting personal, social, and emotional development by promoting confidence, independence, cooperation, and positive behaviour

  • Delivering learning through play, exploration, and practical activities, both indoors and outdoors

  • Assisting in the observation, assessment, and recording of children’s progress and achievements, providing valuable feedback to the class teacher

  • Helping to maintain a safe, clean, and stimulating learning environment

  • Supporting children during daily routines, including arrivals, transitions between activities, mealtimes, and toileting where required

  • Supporting children with additional needs, under the guidance of the class teacher or SENCo

  • Collaborating effectively with teachers, Early Years practitioners, and other members of staff

  • Maintaining professional standards and contributing to the positive ethos of the school

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will be professional, reliable, and passionate about early years education. You should be patient, nurturing, and approachable, with a genuine interest in helping children learn and develop.

You should demonstrate:

  • Experience working with young children in an EYFS setting, such as a nursery, reception class, or early years provision

  • A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage framework and principles of child development

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with colleagues

  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the varying needs of children and classroom activities

  • A calm, positive, and nurturing approach to supporting children’s learning and wellbeing

  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

A relevant qualification in early years education or childcare (Level 2 or Level 3) is desirable, though candidates with significant experience and a willingness to learn and develop professionally are encouraged to apply.

Our School and Early Years Provision

Our school offers a supportive and collaborative environment where staff are valued and encouraged to contribute to the life of the school. The Early Years provision is carefully designed to support children across all areas of development and to encourage a love of learning from an early age.

  • A supportive and experienced Early Years team

  • Well-resourced classrooms and outdoor learning spaces

  • Opportunities for professional development and training

  • Clear guidance and support from senior leaders

  • A positive working environment where your contributions are recognised and valued
