Viral Hepatitis Clinical Fellow

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has risen for a 6-month Viral Hepatitis Clinical Fellow to strengthen the clinical and academic Viral Hepatitis service at Kings College Hospital (KCH) and its network partners. Relevant/notable experience working within the NHS is essential. Previous applicants for this post should not re-apply. They will work within the Viral Hepatitis Operational Delivery Network (ODN) hosted by King's and support with elimination initiatives across the region.

The post holder will have the opportunity to develop wide experience within the department, with sessions being dedicated to clinical work (which will include outpatient clinics) with some flexible sessions to develop relevant interests. The remaining sessions could involve clinically based research with the potential to develop bespoke clinical and research interests. The post could be tailored to specific interests within Hepatology /Hepatitis. An important component of this post will be to support the Hepatitis Network (South East London and Kent) and its integrated pathways across primary and secondary care.

Main duties of the job
As well as acting as key member of the Hepatology and Viral Hepatitis multi-disciplinary team at King's, the post holder will support the ODN Programme Manager and Clinical Lead in overseeing and implementing Viral Hepatitis Elimination initiatives in SEL. The ODNs form a national framework of networks specialist commissioned to deliver on the Hepatitis C Elimination Programme and recently expanded to also include Hepatitis B and Community Liver Health Checks. Therefore, this is an exciting opportunity to join an established programme driving delivery of national, regional and local priorities.

Job responsibilities
The overall duties are outlined in the attached job description and person specification, but the main duties are highlighted below:

• Oversee and contribute to specific Viral Hepatitis projects and pathway initiatives within the service and wider ODN to support with elimination goals.
• Work collaboratively with the ODN Clinical lead and Programme Manager to ensure internal and external activity levels and objectives are met.
• Work collaboratively with other fellows in the SEL network.
• Attendance at two (2) clinical sessions per week at KCH and/or other sites in the SEL network or community venues. However, flexibility in covering clinical commitments will be required.
• Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the Trust in such hospital, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.
• Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.
• Act as a resource and support to patients and their relatives, explaining practical aspects of clinical trials.
• To assist in clinical audits and research projects to improve care.
• Embark or undertake academic research aligned with the units priorities.

Qualifications
Essential

• Registrable medical qualification
• MRCP or equivalent
• Full Registration with GMC with License to Practice.

Desirable

• BSc

Experience
Essential

• Previous and significant experience in the NHS
• Registrar or equivalent training in Hepatology, or post core CMT internal Medicine

Desirable

• Experience in research of Hepatology, Liver Transplant, GCP training
• Previous research experience GCP
• Experience of under-graduate teaching and exam preparation.

• Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit and quality improvement.
• Demonstrated understanding of research concepts, governance and ethics.

• Previous involvement in research projects and published in peer reviewed journals.
