SEN Teacher – SEMH (Secondary)
Full-time | Long-term opportunity
We are supporting a specialist SEMH secondary setting to recruit an SEN Teacher to join their established team working with young people aged 11–18 .
This is a small, purpose-built provision with a strong emphasis on character development, emotional regulation, and long-term outcomes for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.
The Setting
The school supports a small cohort of pupils , allowing for genuinely personalised education and strong relationships. The ethos centres on nurturing potential, improving quality of life, and helping young people re-engage with education in a meaningful way.

Requirements
The Role
This role would suit a secondary-trained teacher, SEN teacher, or primary-trained teacher who is confident working with secondary-aged pupils with SEMH needs.
You will deliver a core curriculum at KS3 and KS4 , supporting pupils to achieve qualifications ranging from Entry Level through to Level 1, GCSE or Level 2 equivalents , depending on need and pathway.
Alongside subject delivery, the role includes contributing to personal development, PSHE, careers and character-based learning , supporting pupils’ wider development beyond academics.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for pupils with SEMH needs
Support pupils to achieve recognised qualifications appropriate to their ability
Deliver personal development, PSHE, careers, and character education sessions
Maintain a calm, consistent approach during periods of dysregulation
Use de-escalation strategies to support emotional regulation and learning
Build strong relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
Contribute to a collaborative, values-led staff team
Essential Skills & Experience
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
Experience teaching secondary-aged pupils
Strong behaviour management rooted in relationship-building
Calm, emotionally intelligent, and resilient approach
Commitment to inclusive education and pupil wellbeing
Desirable Experience
Experience working in SEMH or alternative provision
Practical knowledge of de-escalation strategies
Familiarity with frameworks such as:
Emotion coaching
Nurture principles
Zones of Regulation
Willingness to adapt curriculum to meet complex needs
