We are seeking a dedicated, patient, and skilled Teaching Assistant to support children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in a busy primary school in Ealing, West London . This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who are passionate about helping pupils with diverse learning needs, including autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, and social-emotional challenges , to achieve their full potential.

The role is ideal for individuals who enjoy one-to-one support, small group interventions, and working closely with teachers to deliver a tailored learning experience for every pupil.

  • Implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to meet each child’s unique learning needs

  • Delivering targeted interventions to support literacy, numeracy, and social skills

  • Promoting positive behaviour through consistent, evidence-based strategies

  • Collaborating with external professionals, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists

  • Supporting transition periods for pupils moving between classes or returning to mainstream classrooms

Role Overview

As a SEN Teaching Assistant , you will provide high-quality support to pupils with additional needs , ensuring that learning is accessible and engaging. You will work directly with pupils, small groups, and alongside classroom teachers , helping to differentiate lessons and provide personalised strategies to overcome learning barriers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering one-to-one or small group interventions to pupils with SEN

  • Supporting pupils with autism spectrum conditions, ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning difficulties

  • Assisting teachers in lesson preparation, classroom management, and differentiated instruction

  • Encouraging social interaction and positive relationships among pupils

  • Helping pupils develop emotional regulation, resilience, and self-confidence

  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress and achievements

  • Participating in SEN meetings, planning sessions, and reviews

  • Supporting pupils during unstructured times , including break and lunch periods

  • Implementing strategies outlined in behaviour support plans and IEPs

  • Liaising with parents and external professionals to ensure a consistent approach

Key Responsibilities

  1. Classroom Support:
    Provide assistance to teachers in planning, delivering, and adapting lessons for pupils with SEN. Help with classroom organisation, resources, and behaviour management.

  2. Individual and Small Group Support:
    Work closely with pupils to deliver tailored interventions in literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional development. Support pupils in understanding tasks, completing work, and meeting learning objectives.

  3. Behaviour Management:
    Use positive reinforcement, behaviour support strategies, and de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviours. Support pupils in developing self-regulation and coping strategies.

  4. Progress Monitoring:
    Observe, assess, and record pupil progress. Provide feedback to teachers and SENCOs, contributing to the planning of future interventions.

  5. Safeguarding and Wellbeing:
    Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment. Ensure compliance with school safeguarding policies and procedures. Report any concerns promptly.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working with pupils with SEN , preferably in a primary school or specialist setting

  • Be patient, empathetic, and resilient , with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Be able to manage challenging behaviour calmly and consistently

  • Demonstrate strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks

  • Be confident working both independently and as part of a team

  • Understand the importance of confidentiality, safeguarding, and child protection

  • Have a willingness to undertake training and professional development in SEN and related areas

Candidates with experience supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, or SEMH needs , as well as knowledge of TEACCH, ABA, or other SEN strategies , will be highly regarded.
