Year 1 Teacher - New Malden

Marchant Recruitment
Kingston upon Thames, Greater London

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Year 1 Teacher to join a friendly and inclusive primary school in New Malden, starting as soon as possible. This is a key role supporting pupils as they move from Reception into Key Stage 1, helping them build confidence, independence, and strong foundations in reading, writing, and mathematics.

The school has a strong community ethos and places a high value on inclusion, collaboration, and pupil wellbeing. Staff work closely together to ensure every child feels supported and motivated to learn. Leadership is approachable and committed to supporting professional development and staff wellbeing.

The Role

As a Year 1 Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet the needs of pupils at different stages of development. You will use assessment effectively to track progress, identify gaps in learning, and adapt teaching to ensure all pupils make strong progress. A clear understanding of phonics and early literacy is essential for this role.

You will work collaboratively with teaching assistants and Key Stage 1 colleagues to ensure consistency across the phase. Strong communication with parents and carers will also be an important part of your role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons across the Year 1 curriculum

  • Support pupils transitioning from EYFS into Key Stage 1

  • Deliver structured phonics and early reading sessions

  • Use assessment to track progress and inform planning

  • Differentiate learning to support all pupils, including SEND and EAL

  • Maintain a calm, structured, and inclusive classroom environment

  • Promote positive behaviour, independence, and resilience

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and colleagues

  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers

  • Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and CPD

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Have experience teaching in Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1

  • Be confident delivering phonics and early literacy

  • Have strong classroom management and organisational skills

  • Be reflective, adaptable, and enthusiastic

  • Demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and safeguarding

  • Be a positive and reliable team member

Early Career Teachers are welcome to apply and will receive mentoring and support.

What the School Offers

  • A supportive and collaborative Key Stage 1 team

  • Clear planning frameworks and shared resources

  • Well-resourced classrooms

  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression

  • Leadership that values staff wellbeing

  • Engaged and motivated pupils

Location

The school is located in New Malden, with excellent transport links and access to local amenities. Staff benefit from a professional, welcoming, and supportive working environment.

How to Apply

To apply, please forward an up-to-date copy of your CV, clearly outlining your experience and suitability for the role.

Start Date: ASAP

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
