Year 1 Teacher - New Malden
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Year 1 Teacher to join a friendly and inclusive primary school in New Malden, starting as soon as possible. This is a key role supporting pupils as they move from Reception into Key Stage 1, helping them build confidence, independence, and strong foundations in reading, writing, and mathematics.

The Role
As a Year 1 Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet the needs of pupils at different stages of development. You will use assessment effectively to track progress, identify gaps in learning, and adapt teaching to ensure all pupils make strong progress. A clear understanding of phonics and early literacy is essential for this role.
You will work collaboratively with teaching assistants and Key Stage 1 colleagues to ensure consistency across the phase. Strong communication with parents and carers will also be an important part of your role.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess high-quality lessons across the Year 1 curriculum
Support pupils transitioning from EYFS into Key Stage 1
Deliver structured phonics and early reading sessions
Use assessment to track progress and inform planning
Differentiate learning to support all pupils, including SEND and EAL
Maintain a calm, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
Promote positive behaviour, independence, and resilience
Work collaboratively with teaching assistants and colleagues
Communicate effectively with parents and carers
Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and CPD
Who We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate will:
Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
Have experience teaching in Key Stage 1, ideally Year 1
Be confident delivering phonics and early literacy
Have strong classroom management and organisational skills
Be reflective, adaptable, and enthusiastic
Demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and safeguarding
Be a positive and reliable team member
