Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Architect to play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of new construction and development projects. This position is responsible for driving the design process from concept through completion, ensuring that all work meets the highest standards of quality, safety, sustainability, and compliance. The Architect will collaborate closely with internal teams, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities to balance creative design with practical execution. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to managing competing priorities in a dynamic project environment.
Key Responsibilities of the Architect:
Design Coordination:
- Lead and oversee the full design development lifecycle, from feasibility studies and conceptual design through to detailed technical drawings and construction documentation.
- Ensure all designs align with project objectives, contractual obligations, regulatory frameworks, and cost and programme constraints.
- Monitor and track design progress, proactively identifying risks, delays, or issues, and facilitating timely resolution to keep projects on schedule.
- Establish and maintain version control, ensuring that the latest design information is clearly documented, distributed, and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
- Conduct thorough reviews of design packages for buildability, technical accuracy, interdisciplinary coordination, and compliance with standards.
- Incorporate input from project managers, engineers, contractors, and end users to deliver designs that are functional, sustainable, and cost-effective.
- Embed principles of sustainability, accessibility, and lifecycle value into all design solutions, contributing to long-term asset performance.
- Maintain comprehensive records of design iterations, approvals, and correspondence to support quality assurance, risk management, and audit requirements.
Building Control, Party Wall Compliance & Planning:
- Take ownership of ensuring full compliance with Building Control regulations, Planning conditions, and the Party Wall Act.
- Work collaboratively with project managers, site supervisors, and consultants to uphold statutory and safety obligations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare, review, and submit all necessary documentation to Building Control authorities and planning officers ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Proactively secure all necessary permits, licences, and approvals prior to commencement of construction activities.
- Monitor and maintain detailed records of compliance trackers, inspection reports, and regulatory correspondence, ensuring the project remains audit ready.
- Stay informed of emerging legislation, industry standards, and best practices, providing updates and guidance to internal teams to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Utilise internal task management and project control systems to monitor responsibilities, deadlines, and deliverables.
General Tasks:
- Manage email, calendar, and diary functions efficiently to prioritise tasks, schedule meetings, and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for project meetings, including agenda preparation, minute-taking, and follow-up actions.
- Maintain structured and well-organised project files within SharePoint and electronic document management systems, ensuring all stakeholders can access accurate, up-to-date information.
- Promote effective collaboration across project teams by supporting digital tools, workflows, and document-sharing practices.
- Contribute to budget and commercial reporting processes, supporting procurement and cost management activities as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
- Professional registration or eligibility for registration with the ARB (Architects Registration Board); chartered membership of the RIBA desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in design development and project delivery within the construction industry.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM platforms, and other design software.
- Solid understanding of UK Building Regulations, Planning processes, Health & Safety legislation, and the Party Wall Act.
- Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, contractors, and consultants.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear documentation and present design concepts to stakeholders.
- A proactive mindset with attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and commitment to high-quality, sustainable design outcomes.
