Locum (Accommodation & Adelaide Street)

The Connection at St Martins
London

About The Connection at St Martin’s

We believe that no one should have to sleep rough on London’s streets, and that everyone should get the support they need to find a place to call home. We get to know every person we work with, understanding what they need to recover, helping them build on their strengths, and supporting them to find their own way home. Help us make London a city where no one sleeps rough on our streets.

London’s diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects London’s diversity at all levels. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.

We particularly encourage applications from candidates with lived experience of homelessness who we believe are an essential asset in our sector.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and welcome the opportunity to consider flexible working arrangements.

About the Roles

The locum work available covers various teams at The Connection. Please see below for a brief description of the roles and where they are based:

The Connection at St Martins Resource Centre - Adelaide Street, WC2N 4HW

The Resource Centre (CSTM) offers a place where people can gain respite from street homelessness, engage in activities, develop social inclusion and reduce isolation and have their needs met by committed and dedicated multi-disciplinary teams.

We have several locum roles available at this location across the following teams:

  • Community Team and Centre Services Team: The locum duties within these teams aim to support our busy resource centre. Types of support needed from locums include but are not limited to supporting the running of reception, the laundry service and the overall staffing of the building to ensure that clients are able to access basic services, and to speak to their support workers. These roles are daytime only and usually are staffed Monday to Friday.
  • SWEP (Severe Weather Emergency Protocol) Provision: The locum duties within the SWEP provision include both the set up and staffing of our night centre provision that is activated across the winter period. These shifts are waking nights, typically 8pm to 8am, across a 7-day week. We aim to make the space as welcoming as possible and provide shelter from sub-zero temperatures. We are also anticipating needing extra night cover for overnight stays we expect to be delivering outside of SWEP being active.

Accommodation Services – Clapham and Paddington

The accommodation provision CSTM offers is currently across two sites, one in Clapham and the other in Paddington. Both services offer people with interconnecting needs a safe space to have some respite, and to work towards their longer term move on plans.

We have two different types of roles in the accommodation services available:

  • The London Hotel Team, Paddington: The locum duties within this service are to support the running of a 16-bed hotel, where people that have been rough sleeping are now housed temporarily for respite and support around their longer term move on plan. This service operates Monday to Friday, usually 9am to 5pm.
  • St Martins House, Clapham: STMH is a women’s only housing project that is medium term. The locum duties within this service are to support the running of the accommodation that has 15 beds (being developed to 18). There are 3 types of shift pattern across a 7-day week, earlies, lates and waking night.

Across all of these services you will be joining a dynamic and creative team, focused on building trust through relationships. You will support the team to identify, engage and provide harm minimisation to our clients whilst promoting a sense of belonging, and working with clients to support them on their journey towards a place to call home.

Together we are piloting a new approach to working with people experiencing homelessness in Westminster facing multiple exclusion. We are creating a psychologically-informed environment, adopting a trauma-informed model with direct support from a team of specialist NHS psychologists. You will benefit from specialist training, 1 to 1 meetings, and reflective practice. The team is supported by a broad professional network, including NHS physical health services, DWP benefits advisors, Migrations specialists, and Drug and Alcohol services.

You will have experience in delivering a psychologically, gender and culturally informed service to people who are experiencing street homelessness. You will be both strength-based and solution-focused, developing and enhancing the service with a commitment to embedding coproduction.

£17.53 per hour (£15.64 per hour + £1.89 holiday pay)

Closing Date:

Sunday 2 nd November

Interview Dates:

We will be holding interviews throughout the recruitment process. Interview dates will be on Friday 31 st October and Friday 7 th November
