Job Description

Lead technology delivery that works in the real world

Turner & Townsend helps clients turn complex property, workplace and technology ambition into outcomes that can be delivered and operated successfully.

We are looking for a client-side Digital Buildings Integration professional to lead technology projects and programmes across commercial occupier and workplace fit-out environments. You will bring together the people, information, decisions and delivery activity needed to keep technology scope aligned with wider construction, fit-out and operational priorities.

The role combines practical IT project management with a strategic mindset across smart-building, operational technology and building-integration interfaces. You will work with client teams, designers, contractors, technology suppliers and specialist colleagues to manage scope, programme, budget, risk and stakeholder expectations from initiation through to handover and close-out.

This is not a detailed system-design, installation-design or vendor-configuration role. Your value is in leading the client-side delivery process, coordinating the right technical expertise, making dependencies visible early and helping clients make confident, timely decisions.

What you will do

Lead delivery across property and technology programmes

- lead defined IT, workplace-technology and digital-buildings projects or workstreams from initiation through to close-out

- manage scope, programme, budget, risks, dependencies and decisions, using clear governance and practical controls

- align technology milestones with construction, fit-out and operational-readiness activity, including relevant RIBA Plan of Work stages

- identify blockers early and drive proportionate resolution before they affect cost, programme, quality or client outcomes

- produce concise, useful reporting on progress, financial health, risk and key decisions for client sponsors and senior stakeholders

Coordinate technical and delivery interfaces

- coordinate designers, contractors, vendors and technical resources delivering networks, communications rooms, structured cabling, audiovisual systems, workplace technology and related infrastructure

- manage the interfaces between IT infrastructure, smart-building systems, operational technology, building management systems and the wider delivery programme

- use enough technical understanding to ask the right questions, challenge unclear assumptions and bring the appropriate specialist support into the conversation

- support testing, commissioning, handover and operational readiness so that intended technology outcomes are not lost at the end of delivery

Manage procurement, commercial performance and supplier relationships

- support or lead appropriate technology-procurement activity, including tender processes, proposal evaluation, commercial recommendations and supplier coordination

- manage agreed commercial controls, change, risk and supplier performance appropriate to the commission

- build trusted, constructive relationships with clients, delivery partners and suppliers while maintaining clear accountability for outcomes

- at Principal Consultant level, lead defined bids, extensions and commission commercial performance

Strengthen the team and client offer

- work openly with colleagues across Digital Buildings and the wider Turner & Townsend business to connect technology delivery with client, workplace and operational outcomes

- share learning, improve practical delivery methods and help raise standards across the Building Integration offer

- mentor colleagues and support workstream supervision as the team grows

- contribute to client relationships, opportunities and proposition development in line with your experience and appointment level

How the role grows

At Senior Consultant level

You will independently lead defined projects or workstreams, with responsibility for day-to-day client engagement, programme management, risk control, technical coordination and high-quality delivery outputs. You will manage agreed scope and commercial controls, support procurement activity and build confidence in leading increasingly complex integration challenges.

You will contribute to proposals and client relationship activity, share learning with colleagues and help create a collaborative, high-performing delivery environment.

At Principal Consultant level

You will lead complex commissions, interdependent workstreams or portfolios of projects, with greater responsibility for client confidence, commercial performance, delivery governance and senior stakeholder decisions. You will lead selected bids and extensions, provide credible challenge across technical and programme interfaces and help resolve issues that cut across individual workstreams.

You will also mentor colleagues, raise delivery standards and make a visible contribution to the growth of the Building Integration capability.

Future growth toward Associate Director

This role provides a route toward Associate Director for someone who demonstrates sustained impact beyond individual commissions. At that level, the focus grows to leading major client relationships, building a capable team, developing future leaders, shaping the Building Integration proposition and pipeline, and taking appropriate responsibility for resource and revenue decisions.

Formal line management is not required at appointment. However, we expect the successful candidate to help build and, over time, potentially lead a growing team with care, inclusion, clarity and accountability.

Qualifications

What we are looking for

Essential experience and capability

- experience leading client-side technology, IT infrastructure, workplace technology or related delivery projects in commercial occupier, workplace, construction or fit-out environments

- a track record of managing scope, programme, risk, budget, stakeholders and delivery partners on complex or high-visibility work

- practical experience of technology infrastructure such as networks, communications rooms, structured cabling, telecommunications, cloud or on-premises environments and audiovisual systems

- the ability to coordinate the interfaces between IT infrastructure, smart-building systems, operational technology, building management systems and wider construction or fit-out delivery

- strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, including the confidence to explain complex issues clearly to technical and non-technical audiences

- a proactive, resourceful approach to identifying risks, pursuing decisions and keeping delivery moving

- a recognised project-management qualification such as PRINCE2, PMP, APM PMQ or AgilePM, or equivalent demonstrable professional project-delivery experience

- experience gained either client-side or with a technology integrator, contractor or other delivery organisation, with the judgement to operate successfully in a client-side advisory and assurance role

Desirable experience

- experience aligning technology delivery with RIBA Plan of Work stages, construction programmes or major fit-out activity

- experience of technology procurement, tender and request-for-proposal processes, supplier evaluation or contract management

- working knowledge of smart-building, operational technology or building management system integration

- experience of testing, commissioning, operational readiness or technology handover

- experience in commercial occupier, workplace or complex-estate environments

- experience developing client relationships, contributing to bids or supporting the growth of a technology-delivery offer

- current security clearance, or eligibility to obtain it where required by a commission.

Why join Turner & Townsend

You will join a growing Digital Buildings team working at the point where property, workplace, technology and operational outcomes meet. You will have the opportunity to lead meaningful client delivery, work with specialists across Building Intelligence and Sustainability, Secure Built Environments and Digital Workplace / Smart Product, and help shape a practical, client-side Building Integration offer.

This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys solving real delivery challenges, can build confidence across diverse stakeholder groups and wants to grow from project leadership into wider client, commercial and team leadership.
