The Vitals: What You'll Be Doing

This full-time role requires a strong academic background and a proven ability to teach complex social theories and issues with clarity and intellectual rigour, primarily at the advanced level.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advanced Instruction: Deliver challenging and high-quality lessons in Sociology to students at GCSE and A-Level , focusing on core areas such as theory, research methods, families, and crime/deviance.
  • Critical Engagement: Foster sophisticated analytical and debating skills, encouraging students to critically evaluate social structures, inequalities, and cultural patterns.
  • Curriculum Enrichment: Design and implement a dynamic curriculum that incorporates contemporary social issues and current research, keeping the subject relevant and exciting.
  • Pastoral & Academic Role: Actively participate in the school's academic and pastoral life, potentially serving as a tutor or leading a debating or sociology society.
  • Attainment: Thoroughly prepare students for high-stakes examinations, ensuring excellent student outcomes and successful university placements in related fields.

Candidate Profile: What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be an intellectually curious and experienced teacher who thrives in a highly academic and supportive independent school environment.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualification: A strong degree (2:1 or higher) in Sociology or a closely related Social Science discipline.
  • Certification: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent, or a history of successful, high-level teaching within the independent sector.
  • Experience: Proven, successful experience teaching Sociology at the secondary level, with expertise and a strong track record of outstanding results at A-Level .
  • Skills: Exceptional communication, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to facilitate complex group discussions effectively.
