Financial Controller
Impact and Responsibilities
As Shieldpay's Financial Controller you will be the navigator, translating complex data into a clear roadmap that helps the leadership team steer the business toward growth, profitability, and market dominance. You aren't just reporting numbers; you are identifying the trends, risks, and massive opportunities that lie ahead. This role is perfect for a finance leader who wants to stop looking at historical statements and start designing the trajectory of the business.
End-to-End Ownership: Take full ownership of the end-to-end financial control framework, ensuring robust processes and scalability.
Close Management: Lead and deliver timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including all statutory reporting requirements.
Balance Sheet Integrity: Maintain strict oversight of balance sheet integrity, with a specific focus on safeguarding, settlement, and suspense accounts.
Stakeholder Management: Act as contact for auditors, regulators, and external advisors. Operate alongside FP&A, Treasury, and senior stakeholders to align financial controls with business strategy.
Capital Plans: Prepare and maintain capital adequacy calculations and ensure ongoing regulatory monitoring. Manage wind-down financial models and supporting documentation.
Treasury Collaboration: Produce regular cashflow, liquidity, and cash position reporting in partnership with Treasury Operations.
What we're looking for in you
Proven financial control experience specifically within UK-regulated payments, fintech, or financial services.
Experience thriving in a fast-growing, scale-up environment, with the ability to adapt processes as the business evolves.
Strong understanding of safeguarding, settlement flows, and high-volume reconciliation processes.
Demonstrated experience with regulatory capital adequacy calculations and capital methodology documentation.
Practical experience in producing wind-down financial analysis and required regulatory financial documentation.
Solid technical accounting knowledge under UK GAAP and IFRS within a regulated environment.
Strong capability in cashflow management, liquidity reporting, and forecasting.
Hands-on experience owning and optimizing NetSuite within a growing finance function.
Our Promise: Shieldpay is an equal opportunities employer. For Shieldpay building a fair and transparent workforce begins with the recruitment process that does not discriminate on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, pregnancy or maternity, gender reassignment, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, disability or age. We offer flexible working options, such as flexible hours and hybrid work, to support our employees' work-life balance
