Yard Operative - Acton
Working as a Yard Operative at Lawsons Acton, you will share responsibility for the smooth running of our busy yard. You’ll ensure customer vehicles are loaded efficiently and safely, help maintain organised stock, and demonstrate excellent customer service at every opportunity. This practical outdoor role will play a vital part in upholding the high standards for which Lawsons is well known.
Main Responsibilities – Yard Operative, Acton
Safely load and unload timber, building supplies, and fencing products to customer and company vehicles, ensuring best practice at all times.
Keep the yard tidy, well organised, and compliant with all Health & Safety requirements and risk assessments.
Assist customers by quickly locating and retrieving materials, providing knowledgeable, friendly and respectful service.
Carry out regular stock checks and assist with inventory management, including identifying any discrepancies.
Operate forklifts and other handling equipment in a safe and controlled manner (full forklift training provided for suitable applicants).
Work collaboratively with fellow team members to ensure a positive, inclusive and productive environment.
Contribute to the safety-first culture promoted throughout Lawsons, reporting any safety issues to management promptly.
Essential Skills, Qualities & Experience for Yard Operatives – Acton Branch
Experience in yard, builders’ merchant, or warehouse work is highly desirable, with a practical approach and willingness to learn.
A current forklift certificate is essential.
A Full UK valid Driving License is essential for this position, as our forklifts are operated on public roads in Acton.
Physically fit, able to carry out manual handling, lifting, stacking and moving goods safely in all weather conditions.
Awareness and understanding of Health & Safety best practice in a busy industrial or outdoor environment.
Team-oriented, supportive attitude with a strong focus on fair, respectful and helpful customer service.
Dependable, punctual and self-motivated with a keen attention to detail.
Working Hours, Pay and Benefits – Acton Yard Operative Careers
Full-time, permanent opportunity – Monday to Friday working pattern with alternate Saturday mornings (shifts between 06:00 and 18:00; plus Saturday 1 in 2, 08:00 –12:00).
Competitive salary ranging between £29,000 - £31,000) per year, depending on skills and experience.
