The Role

The Junior Quantitative Market Risk Analyst is an entry-level role in the Market Risk department, focusing on market risk management and quantitative analysis. You will work with a global team to analyze client trading behavior, assess risk, and develop quantitative models for pricing and risk management across various asset classes, including FX, metals, crypto, and more. Responsibilities include researching and back-testing analytical models, enhancing internal risk methodologies, and developing tools for market risk monitoring. You'll provide vital analytical support to the Head of Market Risk - EMEA, engage in pricing analysis, and collaborate closely with trading and development teams. Staying updated on market trends and industry developments is encouraged to support the firm's market risk framework evolution.

Key position responsibilities:

  • Support the design and implementation of data-driven quantitative strategies within a fast-paced brokerage trading environment.
  • Assisting in the preparation of risk reports and analyses for the Head of Market Risk, General Manager – Operations, Risk and Analytics, Senior Management, and other stakeholders.
  • Research, develop, and back-test quantitative models for pricing, hedging, and risk management across multiple asset classes, including FX, metals, crypto, energies, and equities.
  • Develop, test, and maintain internal tools that automate trading operations and improve team efficiency.
  • Monitor the performance of live models and systems, proactively identifying issues and implementing enhancements to optimize results.
  • Supporting the monitoring of the group’s overall market risk to ensure adherence to risk limits.
  • Collaborating with senior team members to contribute to the management and reduction of group risk through financial instruments.
  • Highlighting potential issues or risks to the Head of Operations, Head of Market Risk, or global compliance functions for review and resolution.
  • Aiding with the monitoring of back-end pricing systems and infrastructure to ensure smooth operations.
  • Conducting research and contributing to analyses of Pepperstone’s pricing and competitor offerings, while suggesting potential improvements or opportunities.
  • Assisting in reviewing potential new products and conducting market research to inform decision-making.
  • Supporting clear and transparent communication with stakeholders regarding products, market events, and risks. Helping to identify and escalate potential cases of market abuse or malicious trading activities to the compliance team.
  • Assisting in the assessment of client trading activities to support effective risk management decisions and counterparty allocation.
  • Working closely with senior team members on tasks such as best execution reporting, trade reporting, and fulfilling other regulator requirements.

About you

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, including libraries like Pandas, NumPy, and Scikit-learn for data manipulation, analysis, and model building.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment, multi-task, prioritize and meet strict deadlines.
  • Sharp problem-solving skills with a keen interest in applying rigorous quantitative techniques to financial markets.

  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, with a willingness to learn and apply new techniques.
  • A team player with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams, functions, and time zones.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, and a professional yet approachable interpersonal style.
  • Motivated, flexible, and open to learning, with a positive attitude and a desire to grow within the role.
  • Committed to ongoing personal and professional development.
