Legal Counsel (Alternatives)
Where you'll fit in & what our team goals are This is a great opportunity to join as a Legal Counsel (2-4 PQE) within the Alternatives & RI legal team, providing legal support and advice primarily to the Real Estate business and the Responsible Investment (RI) business in EMEA. Your role will also involve providing ad hoc legal support for the private equity and infrastructure businesses located in EMEA. You will report to the Senior Legal Counsel for Responsible Investment, EMEA.
Responsibilities- Working closely with and supporting the EMEA RI Senior Counsel, ensuring disclosure and reporting obligations are met under applicable sustainable investment regulations such as UK SDR, TCFD and EU SFDR; managing contractual negotiations for the REO (Responsible Engagement Overlay) service; reviewing and updating various ESG policies annually.
- Working closely with and supporting the EMEA Real Estate Senior Counsel, reviewing and negotiating service provider agreements and other real estate related contracts and supporting the launch of, or material changes to, real estate products.
- Providing ad hoc legal advice and support to the private equity and infrastructure businesses and supporting the launch of, or material changes, to products offered by these businesses.
- Providing legal support and advice to the Pyrford International and Thames River Capital businesses in respect of both segregated mandates and their investment funds (Irish UCITS, UK OEIC and UK listed investment trust) working with other SMEs within Legal.
- Additionally, there are opportunities to supervise trainees within the team.
- Must be 2-4 years PQE with authorised retail funds and/or alternative investment funds experience (UK or Lux) gained either in-house at an investment management firm or in private practice.
- Some knowledge of and exposure to sustainable investment regulations such as EU SFDR, UK SDR, TCFD would be preferable.
- Experience in negotiating investment management agreements and service provider agreements for fund vehicles and segregated mandates.
- Ability to act with a clear sense of ownership of tasks following through on commitments around delivery of work product to business stakeholders, whilst keeping them informed on progress as required.
- Willingness to develop based on constructive feedback - "growth rather than fixed mindset" - and to learn from mistakes.
- Ability to evaluate pro, cons and implications of different courses of action and to frame them in a way that can be easily understood by the business.
- Able to work easily within a team both within Legal and with other support functions, in particular Compliance and Tax.
- Willingness to pitch in to "go the extra mile" to hit key deadlines.
