Location: Hammersmith, West London
Salary: Competitive (Based on experience)
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent

The Opportunity
Wayman Education is seeking a dedicated and resilient Attendance Officer for an immediate start at a high-achieving secondary school in Hammersmith. This is a critical role within the school’s pastoral team, focused on ensuring every student has the best possible opportunity to succeed by maintaining high levels of school attendance.
The Role
You will be the primary point of contact for all matters regarding student attendance and punctuality. This role requires a unique blend of administrative precision and empathetic communication, as you will work closely with families, teachers, and external agencies to overcome barriers to school engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Monitoring & Reporting: Track daily attendance using the school’s Management Information System (MIS) and identify patterns of persistent absence.
First-Day Response: Contact parents and carers via telephone or text when a student is absent without notification.
Intervention: Meet with students and parents to discuss attendance concerns, creating action plans to improve engagement.
Home Visits: When necessary, conduct home visits to support families and verify the wellbeing of students who are not in school.
Compliance: Prepare documentation for the Local Authority regarding legal interventions and attend attendance panel meetings.
The School
Located in the heart of Hammersmith, this school is known for its inclusive atmosphere and commitment to student welfare. You will join a supportive safeguarding and pastoral department that values collaborative working and shares a passion for student success.
Why join this team?
Immediate Impact: Take on a role where you can see the direct results of your work in the improved engagement of vulnerable students.
Professional Development: Gain experience in safeguarding protocols and legal frameworks surrounding education.
Excellent Connectivity: Located in a well-connected part of West London, easily accessible via the District, Piccadilly, and Hammersmith & City lines.
Supportive Culture: Benefit from a team-based approach where your expertise in attendance is respected by the Senior Leadership Team.
Requirements
Previous experience as an Attendance Officer, School Administrator, or in a similar pastoral/welfare role.
Proficiency in using school management software (such as SIMS, Arbor, or Bromcom).
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive conversations with parents and students firmly but fairly.
A strong understanding of the legal requirements and statutory guidance surrounding school attendance.
Highly organized with the ability to manage a busy workload and meet strict reporting deadlines.
An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to undergo one immediately).
