Teacher of English

All Saints Catholic School

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Teacher of English to join our dedicated and ambitious English department.

The successful candidate will inspire pupils through engaging and purposeful teaching, developing their confidence, curiosity and appreciation of English language and literature. They will teach across the relevant Key Stages, including the AQA GCSE English Language and English Literature specifications.

As a Catholic school, we seek a teacher who will support our distinctive mission and help pupils to recognise and appreciate the truth, goodness and beauty found within literature, language and the wider curriculum.

Purpose of the Role

The Teacher of English will:

  • Support and uphold the Catholic ethos, mission and values of the school.

  • Provide high-quality teaching that enables all pupils to make strong progress.

  • Maintain high expectations of achievement, behaviour and conduct.

  • Meet the Teachers’ Standards and fulfil the wider professional responsibilities of a classroom teacher.

  • Make a positive contribution to the life and development of the school.

Teaching and Learning

The successful candidate will:

  • Plan and deliver well-structured, engaging and challenging lessons across the age and ability range.

  • Create a safe, purposeful and stimulating learning environment based on mutual respect.

  • Set high expectations which motivate and challenge all pupils.

  • Develop pupils’ knowledge, understanding, literacy, articulacy and use of Standard English.

  • Foster a love of English and encourage intellectual curiosity and independent learning.

  • Set appropriate homework and other activities that consolidate and extend learning.

  • Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and respond to feedback.

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of a high-quality English curriculum.

  • Use appropriate resources and technology effectively to support learning.
