SEN Teaching Assistant
Teach Now are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a warm, inclusive and well-regarded primary school in Hammersmith & Fulham. We are seeking a compassionate, confident and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a non-verbal child with ASD in Reception. This is a part-time afternoon role, ideal for a practitioner who is nurturing, patient and able to build strong, trusting relationships with young children. You will be joining a friendly and collaborative Early Years team who are deeply committed to supporting every child’s individual needs. The school is known for its child-centred ethos, strong SEND support, and excellent communication between staff and families. Your role will play a vital part in ensuring the child can fully access learning, play and daily routines in a safe, predictable and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent 1:1 support for a non-verbal child with ASD during afternoon sessions
- Support communication using strategies such as visuals, gestures, routines and modelling
- Assist with engagement in play-based learning, sensory activities and structured tasks
- Help the child manage transitions, emotional regulation and changes in routine
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENDCo to implement individualised strategies
- Maintain a calm, patient and positive presence at all times
- Ensure safeguarding, safety and wellbeing remain the highest priority
- Experience supporting children with ASD, particularly non-verbal communication needs (essential)
- Previous Early Years or Reception class experience (highly desirable)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Calm, reliable and nurturing approach
- Ability to commit to afternoon sessions consistently
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
- Ensure that you will have your own dedicated consultant who will provide ongoing support and guidance.
- Offer an excellent ‘refer a friend’ scheme that pays you £150 for each candidate you refer to us after they have worked and been paid for their first 10 days.
- Pay in line with the Agency Worker Regulations (AWR) meaning you will be paid equally to a permanent employee.
