Background

We are seeking a Research Software Engineer to join the Engineering Department at City St George’s, University of London, working on the National Tunnelling Data Hub in collaboration with HS2. You will help deliver a modern, web-based Data Repository for managing and sharing sensor and monitoring data collected across the HS2 programme. This is an exciting opportunity for a software developer, or an engineer with advanced software development skills, to contribute to a high-profile infrastructure project with long-term data legacy ambitions.

Responsibilities

You will design, develop and document a web-based Data Repository, including back-end services, APIs and front-end applications for uploading and downloading monitoring data. You will work with technologies including Python and/or JavaScript, FastAPI, SQL and time-series databases, Docker and GitHub. Working closely with the research team and HS2 stakeholders, you will translate data requirements into effective technical solutions, define common data structures, and ensure the system is reliable, secure and well documented while delivering agreed project milestones.
