Risk & Compliance Surveyor - Asbestos (Band 5)

Key Responsibilities:
● Uphold SHPs Values, Behaviours & Leadership expectations at all times (see overleaf)
● Inspect and survey properties for fire,
asbestos and other relevant risks to comply
with the Fire Safety Regulations, Regulatory
Reform Fire Safety Order, Control of Asbestos
Regulations, building regulations and associated legislation.
● Prepare reports and prioritise remedial actions following inspections.
● Prepare schedules of remedial works and supervise service providers in undertaking them.
● Update databases and risk registers.
● Conduct cyclical auditing to ensure premises are compliant. Liaise with the local housing manager and estate manager relating to any non-compliance by residents or hazards on
estates so that appropriate actions can be taken.
● Check service providers operating for SHP for Health & Safety compliance and safe working practices.
● Provide advice to residents, managers and colleagues relating to building compliance,
including fire precautions and evacuation procedures.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
● Understanding of the social housing sector and
the importance of managing risks.
● Knowledge and experience to ensure
properties comply with fire, asbestos and
other safety regulations.
● Understanding of building construction.
● Understanding of risk assessment processes, risk mitigation and its application.
● Diagnosis of common defects relating to fire and other compliance matters.
● Familiar with fire safety and building engineering, active and passive systems.
● Managing service providers in similar work.
● Willingness to develop knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management)
Regulations 2015
Desirable:
● Knowledge of the Construction (Design and
Management) Regulations 2015 and its
relevance to the work that SHP manages
Qualifications:
● The following or equivalent: UKATA Asbestos Awareness course P405 Management of
Asbestos in Buildings, NEBOSH National
Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk
Management, Scaffold Inspection qualification,
Advanced managing working at height training
course.
