Director, Global Business Management, GPS

HSBC Global Services Limited
London

Global Payments Solutions (GPS) is a core pillar of transaction banking within Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB). As the second-largest payments provider globally by market share and recognised as the leading global cash provider by clients (Euromoney survey 2025), GPS empowers CIB clients to transfer funds, manage balances, and gain enhanced cash flow and treasury insights. This is achieved through a comprehensive, market-leading suite of solutions spanning payables, receivables, liquidity, and cards.

We are seeking a driven professional to join our Global team as Director, Global Business Management. This role encompasses business strategy, analytics, and performance management across GPS. With a strong group-level focus on expanding the payments business and increasing market share, the position offers a stimulating yet demanding environment. The successful candidate will be expected to operate at pace, manage a broad range of deliverables, and engage with a diverse set of stakeholders both within GPS and across CIB and Group functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Development - Support the ongoing evolution of the Global GPS strategy, including preparing high-quality updates for senior forums such as Group OpCo and Group Holdings Board. Monitor and communicate progress on strategy execution across GPS sub-value streams, collaborating closely with the GPS Transformation team.
  • Stakeholder Engagement- regular interaction with internal GPS teams and Investor Relations to develop, articulate, and communicate GPS strategy and priorities. Ensure consistent messaging across internal and external stakeholders by working with Marketing, Communications, and Media Relations.
  • Market Insights - Provide strategic leadership for market and competitor benchmarking, delivering actionable insights to identify risks and opportunities. Enable GPS to grow and protect market share through informed, data-driven decision-making.
  • Project Leadership - Lead and execute strategic projects that span functions, regions, or SVSs, addressing key priorities set by the Global GPS Head. Ensure effective collaboration and delivery across business areas.
  • Point of Contact - Serve as the primary liaison between GPS and internal stakeholders (e.g., CIB CoS and CIB CCO teams) as well as external partners (such as Greenwich Coalition). Communicate GPS priorities and achievements clearly across all audiences.
  • Performance Management - Promote transparency and accountability by aligning key performance indicators and providing actionable management information. Support senior-level, data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
  • Team Leadership - Inspire, develop, and manage a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement to achieve strategic objectives.

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

This role offers a unique opportunity to gain a holistic perspective of the business, its strategy, and visibility among senior leadership and stakeholders across the Group.

  • Ability to assimilate and interpret large volumes of information and data to deliver impactful business messaging. Strong storytelling skills are desirable.
  • Commercial mindset, with the ability to identify cross-functional opportunities to drive both revenue and profitability.
  • Strategic thinking, with a collaborative approach to developing and executing business priorities and initiatives.
  • Knowledge of the GPS business and broader HSBC Global Businesses is advantageous.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing abilities, facilitating effective collaboration across business areas to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Proven experience and confidence in working with senior management and business OpCo.
  • Ability to work autonomously and efficiently on high-priority deliverables.
  • Successful track record in small, fast-paced teams.
