Salary: £20,000–£23,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team in West London . This is a fantastic opportunity for a professional who is committed to supporting children with a range of special educational needs (SEN), including autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties , in achieving their academic, social, and emotional potential.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting inclusive education , working alongside teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure that every child receives tailored, high-quality support in a structured and nurturing environment.

Role Overview

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide one-to-one or small group support to pupils with a variety of learning needs. You will assist with lesson delivery, behaviour management, and personal development , ensuring that children are safe, engaged, and motivated to learn .

Key Responsibilities

  1. Individualised Support:

    • Work with pupils who have autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or other learning difficulties .

    • Provide one-to-one assistance, adapting teaching strategies to meet individual needs.

    • Support communication and social skills development, including emotional regulation and conflict resolution.

  2. Classroom Assistance:

    • Help teachers deliver lessons effectively by preparing resources, setting up learning activities, and supporting group learning.

    • Reinforce learning concepts and provide additional explanations as required.

    • Assist in classroom management, ensuring all pupils are engaged and safe.

  3. Behaviour Management:

    • Implement positive behaviour support plans for children with challenging behaviour.

    • Use de-escalation techniques and structured interventions to support children’s emotional regulation.

    • Maintain records of behaviour incidents, liaising with teachers and SEN coordinators.

  4. Observation and Reporting:

    • Observe and record pupils’ progress, noting strengths, challenges, and developmental milestones.

    • Contribute to Individual Education Plans (IEPs) , sharing insights with the SEN team.

    • Attend SEN meetings and provide input on strategies to support learning and personal growth.

  5. Safeguarding and Wellbeing:

    • Ensure children’s safety and emotional wellbeing at all times.

    • Follow safeguarding procedures and policies, including reporting concerns to designated staff.

    • Support pupils in managing personal care needs where appropriate.

  6. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to coordinate interventions and learning strategies .

    • Maintain regular communication with parents and carers regarding progress and support needs.

    • Participate actively in team meetings, professional development, and school events .

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting pupils with SEN , ideally in primary or secondary school settings.

  • Be confident working with children who have autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or complex learning needs .

  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills , with patience, empathy, and resilience.

  • Be able to implement behaviour support plans and manage challenging behaviour positively.

  • Hold or be willing to obtain relevant SEN or TA qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 TA, CACHE, NVQ).

  • Be committed to inclusive education and personalised learning approaches .
