This is an exciting opportunity to join the Epilepsy Team at Kings College Hospital caring for patients within the Regional epilepsy service as well as supporting the relatively new and expanding Adult Inherited Metabolic Diseases Service (IMD) at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital.
As part of an established and collaborative team of epilepsy consultants, nurse specialists and pharmacists you will be responsible for the delivery of the highest quality of care and latest treatments to both regional and local patients through specialist clinics, inpatient care and MDT meetings. A focus of the team is the equitable and co-ordinated delivery of specialist care through a clinical network model.
You will also provide neurology expertise to the Adult Inherited Metabolic Diseases Service at GSTT offering a neurometabolic clinic and participating in MDTs, liaison work and the on-call rota.
As well as specialist work the postholder will contribute to the general and acute neurology cover at Kings College Hospital.
The postholder will be primarily based at Kings College Hospital but will undertake the IMD element of the job plan at St Thomas’ Hospital.
Main duties of the job
Kings College Hospital (job plan component)
· Conduct weekly specialist epilepsy & general neurology outpatient clinics
· Review inpatients admitted with complex epilepsy presentations & status epilepticus
· Provide advice to other hospitals and neurologists across the Region on the investigation and management of complex patients
· Participate in Complex Epilepsy & Epilepsy Surgery MDTs
· Provide clinical advice & support to the nurse specialists & pharmacists
· Participate in acute neurology rota
· Support undergraduate and postgraduate training
Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital (job plan component)
· Conduct neurometabolic outpatient clinic
· Participate in Metabolic Clinical MDT
· Contribute to liaison work with other healthcare professionals to provide continuous care for IMD patients
· Participate in on-call rota for Adult Inherited Metabolic Diseases

The Trust is recognised internationally for its work in liver disease and transplantation, neurosciences, cardiac, haemato-oncology, fetal medicine, stroke, major trauma, and Emergency Department.

You must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a Licence to Practice and be on the Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining your CCT or equivalent to be eligible for interview.
The postholder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years), therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and as such, it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registerable medical qualification
- Full MRCP or equivalent
Desirable criteria
- Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD) or subspecialty fellowship
Registration
Essential criteria
- Full Registration with GMC
- Name on GMC Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment
- On the day of interview applicants must be within 6 months of CCT or must have fully completed CESR application and be fully registered on the GMC Neurology Specialist Register. Any applications not meeting these criteria will not be considered
- Clinical experience in Adult Metabolic Medicine in a recognised centre
Training and Experience
Essential criteria
- Wide experience in all aspects of neurology culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or award of Certificate of Eligibility for Specialty Registration (CESR) by GMC
- Completion of specialist training programme in Neurology
- Subspecialty experience in epilepsy
- Clinical experience in adult metabolic disorders
Desirable criteria
- Experience in managing acute metabolic emergencies
- Ability of offer expert opinion on a range of metabolic problems in particular Inherited Metabolic disorders
Administration
Essential criteria
- Experience in day-to-day organisation of neurology services in a busy Teaching Hospital
- Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills
Desirable criteria
- Familiar with current structure of UK National Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
Management and Leadership
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
Desirable criteria
- Management course and/or qualification

- Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit
