Operations Technician

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £25,000 - £30,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE BBC Media Operations is at the heart of teams delivering incredible content across all our platforms for all audiences. Comprising around nine hundred people, it manages the craft and production operations for the BBC’s news, radio, and some sport services across London, Salford, and Birmingham - capturing, editing, and producing our output 24x7 for TV, radio, and digital platforms. WHY JOIN THE TEAM The Location team is responsible for resourcing and supporting outside broadcasts, News and Production Services who supply and support kit to self-shooters. Our team work on some of the BBCs highest profile events ranging from music (Glastonbury, the Proms) to Sport (Euros, Olympics) to News (coverage of the Party Conferences, elections as well as breaking News events). YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT: • Production Services staff are responsible for delivering a high quality support service on behalf of the BBC.
• Operations Technicians are responsible for the provision of portable recording equipment, accessories and related consumables.
• Operation Technicians and Senior Operation Technicians ensure that equipment is maintained, available for use, allocated to programme teams as required and monitored and tracked to ensure maximum utilisation of assets.
• They will advise programme makers on the use of the kit that is being hired.
• It is essential that role holder understands the needs of the business and is sensitive to the pressures faced by production teams.
• Operations Technicians are concerned with the preparation and basic maintenance of equipment, liaising with programme teams in relation to their requests and advising on equipment set up, and ensuring that the movements of assets are accurately recorded and tracked. YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: • Experience of using broadcast / production equipment such as cameras and sound recording equipment.
• Detailed technical knowledge of audio and visual equipment used in programme making
• An understanding of the responsibilities involved in the management, supply, maintenance, and storage of all equipment and accessories
• Proven ability to work in a team environment adopting a collaborative and supportive approach
• Examples of communicating technical information to non-technical colleagues/cohorts at all levels DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED: • Good planning and organisational skills with keen attention to detail
• Strong time management skills with a proven ability to prioritise; experience of working to tight deadlines
• Ability to work on own initiative
