About the Assistant Production Manager job

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Production Manager to join a leading artisan wholesale bakery. This leadership role reports to the Head Baker and sits at the heart of daily baking operations and bakery product development. You will be responsible for driving operational excellence, with a strong focus on productivity metrics and effective cost control.

Key tasks

• Lead a team of bakers in bread production, managing day-to-day operations and supporting product development.
• Oversee shift management in a 24/7 environment, ensuring smooth handovers and consistent performance.
• Drive operational excellence through a strong understanding of productivity metrics and cost control.
• Produce accurate weekly reports on key production metrics and represent the business at key meetings with customers and stakeholders.
• Motivate, coach and developing the bakery production team.

About You

• The successful candidate will have proven experience in bread production within a craft or wholesale bakery (as a baker).
• Demonstrates commitment to food safety, traceability, and high-level working practices.
• Strong leadership capability is essential, whether already established in a similar role or developing at Senior Section Leader or Supervisor level with a track record of improving productivity while managing tight cost controls.
• A hands-on, collaborative management style is required, with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop teams to consistently achieve operational excellence.

The Assistant Production Manager job (ref:8998) is paying £40,000 to £50,000 + Bonus dependant on experience.

The role is commutable from London, Waltham Cross, Enfield, Woodford, Barnet, Romford, Epping, Potters Bar, and Edgware.
