Family Law - Associate
Our client, a well-established and respected law firm with a strong track record in family law, is seeking an organised and proactive individual to join their Family Law department as an Associate. You will work closely with experienced solicitors and partners, assisting a wide variety of private clients in complex and sensitive family law matters.
Salary: £60,000 - £80,000, with flexible hybrid working arrangements available.
Family Law Associate: Core Responsibilities and Casework
- Managing and progressing a diverse caseload of family law matters, including divorce, dissolution of civil partnerships, financial remedy proceedings, private law children matters, cohabitation disputes, and pre/post-nuptial agreements.
- Advising clients on family law issues in a clear, confidential, and empathetic manner, providing practical solutions tailored to individual needs.
- Drafting legal documents, statements, court applications, consent orders, and correspondence in compliance with Family Procedure Rules and best practice guidelines.
- Attending and representing clients at court hearings, settlement negotiations, and mediation sessions as required, with supervision appropriate to level of experience.
- Liaising regularly with clients, barristers, experts, and third parties, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and client care.
- Undertaking legal research and analysis on complex family law issues to support casework and further team knowledge.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case management records, ensuring compliance with SRA, AML, and GDPR regulations.
- Contributing to the development and reputation of the Family Law team through networking, business development, and knowledge sharing initiatives.
Essential Skills and Experience for Family Law Solicitor Roles
- Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (or equivalent international qualification) with 7 years + post-qualification experience in family law.
- Experience managing a caseload independently, including divorce, finances, and children matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating clarity, empathy, and discretion when advising clients and handling sensitive matters.
- Strong organisational skills, able to prioritise competing matters and handle work efficiently in a busy environment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in drafting legal documents and maintaining case files.
- Ability to work well under pressure, manage deadlines, and deliver reliable outcomes for clients.
- IT proficiency, with experience using legal case management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
- Commitment to providing inclusive, non-judgemental, and client-centred legal services.
Desirable Attributes and Experience in Family Law Careers
- Experience working on high-net-worth financial settlements, complex children matters, or international family law cases.
- ADR or mediation accreditation, or an interest in developing expertise in alternative dispute resolution within family law.
- Knowledge of public law children proceedings or domestic abuse cases.
- Interest in professional development, including attendance at family law seminars, webinars, and training events.
- Positive and supportive approach, contributing to a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
