Head of Operations Strategy

Stream
London

The Company:

Stream was founded with the mission to provide fair financial tools to the everyday worker. Offered through destination employers like Greene King, Bupa, Burger King, Asda and the NHS, our award-winning platform helps over three million people to earn, learn, save, spend and borrow on their own terms, all in one smartphone app.

Stream is unique: VC backed and growing at scale, but with a social conscience. Some of the world's leading impact funds were our founding investors, and we operate on a social charter, which means every product and service we create must measurably improve financial wellbeing.

You’d be joining a team of over 200 passionate, ambitious people across Europe and the USA, building a category-defining product, and united by that same mission.

The Opportunity:

The Operations function at Stream is at a critical inflection point as the company scales rapidly. The challenge is to maintain and enhance our operational excellence while our transaction volumes and product offerings grow.

This role exists to solve that problem. You'll have the unique opportunity to shape the operational strategy for the entire function, ensuring it operates with maximum efficiency, uses data to drive performance, and continuously improves the experience for both our users and our internal teams. This is a high-impact position where you can directly influence how we build a scalable and resilient operations engine.

The Team:

You will be the Head of Operations Strategy. You'll be a key driver in helping the entire Operations function scale efficiently to support the company's ambitious growth goals. You'll work closely with the VP of Operations to align strategic priorities and will partner with the heads of other operational teams, including Support, Business Operations, Collections, and Risk, to drive improvements.

Your role is to deliver major change activity that ensures operational performance and excellence. You will improve how the operational teams interact with the rest of the business, using your expertise to deliver projects that support the growth of our products and services.

What will you be doing?

You will be responsible for a wide range of strategic and analytical tasks to improve the entire operations function and drive improvements across the business. Key responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Developing and implementing strategic plans for the Operations function.
  • Operational Excellence: Driving efficiency and performance improvements across all operational teams by streamlining processes and leveraging data.
  • Third-Party Relationships: Ensuring effective relationships with our critical third-party payment partners.
  • Project Delivery: Leading complex, cross-functional projects that drive significant operational change to support business growth, including Payments and Pensions setups.
  • Operational Resilience: Enhancing the function's ability to maintain operations during and after disruptions.
  • Cross-Functional Impact: Using data and insights from operations to help drive improvements in product, services, and cost across the entire business.

What experience might you have? (But if you’re close… we'd still love to talk to you!)

  • Proven experience in project delivery and operational change , likely with experience at a recognised consultancy.
  • A track record of successfully leading multiple projects and making things happen quickly and effectively.
  • Exceptional analytical and numerical skills , with the ability to use data to inform decisions and drive performance improvements.
  • Experience in a regulated financial services environment, with a strong understanding of compliance and governance.
  • The ability to turn your hand to a variety of complex tasks, demonstrating skill and intelligence in a fast-paced environment.

Can-be-learnt:

We are open to a candidate who can learn and grow in this role. We welcome a candidate who has a strategic and analytical mindset and a track record of driving change.

We are a dynamic, fast-paced environment where agility and a positive, can-do attitude are highly valued, and we are committed to providing the right person with the opportunity to develop their skills and make a significant impact.

Within 1 month you’ll have:

  • Completed an assessment of the operations function vs strategic requirements to highlight gaps and priority change areas.
  • Established a set of baseline reporting requirements in collaboration with the Operations leadership team and the Data team.

Within 3 months you’ll have:

  • Used your combination of business and data sense to demonstrate a number of improvements to existing operational processes resulting in measurable improvements in either cost or customer experience.
  • Taken on responsibility for a number of cross-functional strategic improvement initiatives.

Within 6 months you’ll have:

  • Implemented at least two major change projects to support strategic objectives of the business.

Working Policy:  We operate a hybrid policy with a requirement of 3 days a week in the office

Salary: From £70,000 to £110,000 + equity & benefits
