Attendance Officer Role in an Independent Secondary School

An independent secondary school in Hackney is seeking to appoint an Attendance Officer to join its pastoral and administrative team as soon as possible. This is a full-time role within a school that values student wellbeing, safeguarding, and strong communication with families.

The successful candidate will play an important role in monitoring attendance, supporting pupils, and ensuring accurate attendance procedures are maintained across the school.

About the Role

You will be responsible for monitoring daily attendance and punctuality, identifying patterns of absence, and liaising with parents, staff, and external agencies where necessary.

The role includes maintaining attendance records, carrying out first-day absence procedures, and supporting attendance improvement initiatives across the school.

You will work closely with pastoral and safeguarding teams to support pupils who may require additional intervention or support with school attendance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and track pupil attendance and punctuality

  • Maintain accurate attendance records and reports

  • Carry out first-day absence calls and follow-up procedures

  • Identify attendance concerns and escalating absence patterns

  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies where appropriate

  • Support attendance improvement strategies across the school

  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and attendance procedures

  • Provide administrative support linked to attendance processes
