Caretaker – Primary School – Ealing

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Salary: Paid to scale

A welcoming Primary School in the London Borough of Ealing is looking to appoint a dependable and hardworking Caretaker to help maintain a safe, clean and secure environment for pupils, staff and visitors. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical work and takes pride in maintaining high standards across a busy school site.

Working closely with the Headteacher and Premises Manager, you will be responsible for carrying out routine maintenance, ensuring the school buildings and grounds are well maintained and supporting the daily operation of the school.

Premises Team

The Premises Team plays a key role in ensuring the school provides a safe, attractive and well-maintained environment where pupils can learn and staff can deliver outstanding education. The team works proactively to maintain high standards across the entire site.

Responsibilities

  • Opening and securing the school each day.

  • Carrying out minor repairs and maintenance.

  • Inspecting classrooms and communal areas.

  • Maintaining outdoor spaces and pathways.

  • Supporting health and safety procedures.

  • Assisting with deliveries.

  • Preparing rooms for assemblies and school events.

  • Monitoring heating, lighting and water systems.

  • Carrying out routine fire safety checks.

  • Liaising with contractors.

  • Reporting maintenance issues promptly.

  • Maintaining maintenance records.

  • Supporting emergency procedures where required.

  • Ensuring the school site remains tidy and presentable.

  • Assisting the wider premises team when required.

Requirements

  • Previous caretaker or maintenance experience.

  • Good DIY and practical skills.

  • Understanding of health and safety legislation.

  • Excellent organisational skills.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Good communication skills.

  • Reliable and flexible approach.

  • Ability to prioritise workload.

  • Commitment to safeguarding.

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
