Senior Accountant

Office-based role in BYD's new state-of-the-art and modern offices in Uxbridge Middlesex West of London (please ensure your daily commute is manageable before applying).

Role Summary

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our UK finance team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role will take ownership of key accounting, reporting and tax processes for BYD UK, ensuring accurate financial reporting, robust reconciliations and timely compliance with UK statutory requirements.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in month-end close, VAT and PAYE compliance, audit coordination and strengthening internal controls, while working closely with Group / HQ finance teams and external advisors.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead month-end close activities within assigned areas, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial data.

• Own and review key balance sheet reconciliations, proactively investigating and resolving discrepancies.

• Review and approve journal entries and supporting documentation where applicable.

• Coordinate preparation and review of VAT returns, PAYE submissions and Corporation Tax data.

• Act as key contact for external auditors and tax advisors, preparing audit schedules and supporting documentation.

• Support HMRC enquiries and ensure timely and accurate responses (subject to senior review where required).

• Monitor regulatory and tax developments and assess impact on UK operations.

• Identify internal control gaps and recommend practical process improvements.

• Support intercompany reconciliations and liaise with HQ to ensure consistent accounting treatment.

• Develop a strong understanding of internal system software and ensure all financial elements within those systems are correctly identified, processed, and aligned with finance policies and reporting requirements.

• Contribute to management reporting and provide meaningful financial analysis.

• Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support management decision-making.

Qualifications & Experience

• Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent), or finalist with no more than two exams outstanding, with strong relevant experience.

• Strong practical experience in UK tax compliance (VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax), including preparation, review and coordination with external advisors.

• 3–6 years’ experience in accounting, audit or finance roles within a UK environment.

• Strong hands-on SAP experience (FI/CO module essential), including journal postings, balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany processing, report extraction and supporting month-end close activities.

• Experience working in a multinational or automotive environment is advantageous.
