We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and multi-skilled School Caretaker to join a vibrant educational community near Dalston . This is a vital role responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, security, and smooth operation of the school site.
The Snapshot
Location: Dalston / Kingsland area, Hackney
Salary: Competitive (Hackney Scale, dependent on experience)
Contract: Full-time, Permanent (Year-round)
Shift Pattern: Split shifts or rotating patterns (e.g., 7:00 AM – 10:00 AM & 2:00 PM – 6:30 PM)
Key Responsibilities
Site Security: Opening and closing the school premises, managing alarm systems, and acting as a key holder for emergency call-outs.
General Maintenance: Carrying out minor repairs (plumbing, carpentry, painting) and coordinating with external contractors for larger projects.
Health & Safety: Conducting regular safety checks (fire alarms, water testing, lighting) and ensuring the site is clear of hazards, especially during winter months.
Porterage & Cleaning: Moving furniture for assemblies or exams and supervising the cleaning team to ensure high standards are maintained.

Located in the heart of Dalston , this school is part of a creative and energetic community. The site is a mix of traditional and modern architecture, requiring a caretaker who is adaptable and takes pride in the physical appearance of the school. You will be a visible and respected member of the school staff, working closely with the School Business Manager.
Candidate Profile
Handyman Skills: Practical experience in DIY or a specific trade (plumbing, electrical, or carpentry) is highly beneficial.
Reliability: A punctual and trustworthy individual who understands the importance of school security.
Physical Fitness: The role involves manual handling, working at heights, and being on your feet for much of the day.
Safeguarding: Must be committed to the safety of children; an Enhanced DBS check is a mandatory requirement for this role.
