Clinical Nurse Facilitator

If so, we invite you to consider this secondment and come and work within our Denmark Hill children's wards education team ; full time 37.50 hrs. a week) as a Band 6 Clinical Facilitator on the Denmark Hill site in Camberwell.
You will be joining an established Child Health Practice Development Team made up of a Lead Nurse, 11 WTE Band 7 Practice Development Nurses and 3 WTE Clinical Facilitators who work within the Children’s Services over the two sites; the other site being at the Princess Royal Hospital, Farnborough.
Working collaboratively with the senior nursing team, ward managers and the Child Health Practice Development Team you will develop a suitable learning environment to enhance the skills and expertise of students and qualified nurses. Excellent communication skills are required to continue the already good working relationships with internal and external partners. You need to have the ability to prioritise your own workload and have excellent organisational skills to ensure the success of this role.
Main duties of the job
• The primary role of the clinical facilitator is to ensure a positive learning environment for students and junior nurses.
• To support learners to maximise available learning opportunities to achieve the clinical practice standards expected from the educational placement
• To facilitate trained staff to develop and maintain assessor/mentor skills
• To act as a resource within Child Health and across the Care Group as necessary and act as a positive role model to students and other staff members
• To maintain effective relationship with link lecturers, lecturer practitioner and other key staff in the Trust, in the interest of supporting nursing students

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical
To act as an effective and credible role model for students and other nurses demonstrating expertise in children’s nursing.
Maintain clinical credibility by working in clinical areas alongside junior members of staff in accordance with individual personal development plans.
To work within and accept responsibility for maintaining agreed levels of clinical competence and ensure clinical currency as new technologies are introduced
To comply with policies, procedures and guidelines in accordance with requirement of the clinical role.
To attend corporate forums as appropriate and liase with other clinical facilitators, PDN’s and lecturer practitioners within the Trust.
To be aware of the Trust’s safeguarding policies and procedures and demonstrate ability to effectively raise concerns and work with other agencies to protect children
Education and Practice
To facilitate an active, motivated and dynamic learning environment.
To prepare and contribute to educational audit of wards.
To be aware of regulations related to post- qualification education training and Trust responsibilities for qualified nursing staff
To be aware of regulations related to pre-registration training and Trust responsibilities for students
To develop local induction programme for students and new members of staff identifying assessor/mentorship support.
To work with key care group staff supporting teaching and training sessions for students and junior staff as requested on relevant clinical and professional subjects.
To work with the assessors and supervisors to ensure accurate and honest completion of the students documentation of competence.
To identify at the earliest possible stage, students who are failing to meet required standards and take appropriate action to alert the key person within the relevant university
Demonstrate awareness of how own role/modeling contributes to both qualified and students’ development and progress.
To ensure the assessment and development of all junior nursing staff includes both practical skills and knowledge related to the clinical areas including CNST training required as mandatory.
To respond appropriately to any health and safety issues involving students, ensuring prompt accurate reporting of information and that action is taken as required.

- Level 1 nurse (child)
- Evidence of continuing professional development
- ENB 998/997, Mentorship, Supervisor/Assessor training or equivalent qualification,
- An understanding of educational programmes, policies and procedures that apply to students at HEI.
- Ability to utilize research in clinical practice
- Relevant degree level study or willingness to study towards this within agreed timeframe
- Ability to work with adult learners with varying abilities and the activities of large multidisciplinary team within this.
Desirable criteria
- Awareness of issues in wider nurse education
- Previous experience of supporting change in a clinical practice
