French Teacher – Independent School – Kingston upon Thames

An independent school in Kingston upon Thames is seeking a talented and enthusiastic French Teacher to join its Modern Foreign Languages Department. The school is looking for a teacher who can develop students’ communication skills, encourage cultural curiosity and make language learning enjoyable and rewarding.

  • Teaching French across KS3 and KS4, including GCSE

  • Location: Kingston upon Thames

  • Salary: MPS1–UPS3

  • Contract: Full-time, permanent

  • Start Date: ASAP

You will deliver well-planned French lessons that develop students’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. Across KS3, you will build strong foundations in vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar, helping pupils become increasingly confident when communicating in French.

At KS4, you will prepare students for GCSE assessments, developing their ability to understand spoken and written French, produce accurate written responses and communicate effectively in different contexts.

Lessons should incorporate interactive activities, structured conversation practice and relevant cultural material. You will assess progress regularly, provide clear feedback and adapt your teaching to meet the needs of students with different levels of confidence and ability.

French Teacher – School Information

The school is an established independent school in Kingston upon Thames with a broad academic curriculum and a supportive teaching environment.

The MFL Department encourages students to develop practical language skills alongside an appreciation of French-speaking cultures. Teachers are encouraged to use varied resources and activities to maintain engagement and help pupils make consistent progress.

Staff work collaboratively on curriculum planning and assessment, with opportunities for professional development and involvement in wider school activities.

French Teacher – Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree in French or a related subject

  • QTS or recognised teaching qualification

  • Experience teaching French at secondary level

  • Ability to teach KS3 and KS4

  • GCSE French experience

  • Strong spoken and written French

  • Effective classroom management

  • Ability to develop students’ confidence in communication

  • Strong planning and assessment skills

  • Commitment to student progress

Salary

The salary will be paid to scale on MPS/UPS, depending on experience and qualifications.
