Finance Director
Location: UK - Remote with occasional presence in London when required
About XYB
XYB is the company creating Adaptive Financial Infrastructure (AFI), the new category for banking orchestration, unifying systems, people, and processes — context aware, operationally resilient.
The AFI Platform, the banking orchestrator at event speed, is the event-native substrate enabling financial institutions to modernise and launch new digital propositions, adapting in weeks, not years. Recognised by Everest Group and Celent, XYB empowers financial institutions to adopt agentic AI, real-time payments, and decentralised finance, and be ready for what's next without replacing what already works.
The role
We're looking for a Finance Director who combines strong technical accounting foundations with genuine strategic range. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll own the integrity of our numbers day to day while shaping the financial strategy that supports XYB's next stage of growth.
You'll manage and develop our Finance Manager, so we need someone who enjoys coaching as much as doing; someone comfortable rolling up their sleeves on month-end close one day and presenting scenario models to the board the next.
A key part of this role will be helping to lead an upcoming fundraise: building the financial story and model, preparing the data room, and supporting the leadership team through investor conversations and due diligence.
What you'll do
Strategic and commercial finance:
Own Board and Investor reporting, liaising directly with stakeholders and presenting at Board meetings when required
Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning, in order to advise on capital allocation decisions, with regular re-forecasting as the business evolves
Own commercial pricing analysis - margin modelling, pricing reviews, and deal support, working closely with sales and leadership
Build financial models and scenario analyses to support investment and expansion decisions
Help lead our next fundraise: own the financial model and forecasts, prepare the data room, and support investor meetings and due diligence
Partner with the leadership team as a commercial sounding board, translating numbers into decisions
Own cash flow management, working capital, treasury, and banking
Financial control and reporting:
Oversee the month-end and year-end close, ensuring accurate, timely management accounts
Maintain robust financial controls, policies, and processes as the business scales
Manage the audit process and relationships with external accountants, auditors, and advisors
Ensure compliance with statutory reporting, tax, and regulatory requirements
Team leadership:
Line-manage, coach, and develop the Finance Manager, including reviewing their work and building a structured development plan
Build out the finance function over time - defining what roles we hire next and when
What we're looking for
Must have:
Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA or equivalent)
8+ years post-qualification experience, including experience managing or mentoring junior finance staff
Experience working as part of a senior Leadership team
Strong technical grounding: management accounts, statutory reporting, controls, and tax fundamentals
Proven experience owning budgeting, forecasting, and building robust financial models from scratch
Experience in a tech business at Seed/ Series A stage, preferably in a VC backed environment.
Commercial instinct, comfortable analysing pricing and margins and influencing commercial decisions
Confident communicator who can present financial insight clearly to non-finance audiences, including investors
Experience working as part of a leadership team
Nice to have:
Direct experience supporting or leading a fundraise (equity or debt), including due diligence
Experience in B2B SAAS business, preferably within core banking, payments or fintech
Systems experience with Xero and strong Excel skills
What we offer
Unlock your potential with abundant personal growth opportunities.
Thrive in a flat structure with open communication.
Enjoy autonomy in a driven, talented international team.
Work with a modern stack in a dynamic environment.
Competitive salary, flexible hours, hybrid working, and even the chance to work abroad.
Stock options
We invest in your professional development.
Extra Time Off: Enhanced sick days, wedding leave, and more
