A successful and inclusive secondary school in Brentford is looking for a bright, enthusiastic and committed Graduate Teaching Assistant to join its team from September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for graduates, or students completing their degree by September 2026, who have a strong academic background and are considering a future career in teaching. The school is particularly interested in candidates with degrees or strong subject knowledge in English, Mathematics or Science .
You will work alongside experienced teachers across Key Stages 3 and 4 , supporting pupils in the classroom, delivering targeted interventions and helping students build the confidence and skills they need to succeed.
The Role
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will become an important member of the secondary school's support team. You will work closely with subject teachers to provide academic and pastoral support, with a particular emphasis on the core subjects of English, Maths and Science .
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting teachers during lessons across English, Maths and Science.
- Delivering 1:1 and small-group academic interventions.
- Helping students develop their knowledge, confidence and independent learning skills.
- Supporting pupils who require additional academic or learning support.
- Assisting teachers with lesson preparation and classroom resources.
- Helping to maintain a positive, calm and productive classroom environment.
- Supporting effective behaviour management in accordance with school policies.
- Monitoring student engagement and contributing to progress tracking.
- Encouraging pupils to develop positive attitudes towards learning.
- Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff and the wider school team.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate will be an ambitious graduate with a genuine interest in working with young people and developing a career in education.
You should have:
- A 2:1 degree or above , or be on track to graduate by September 2026.
- Strong subject knowledge in English, Mathematics or Science .
- A genuine passion for supporting secondary-age students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The confidence to work with pupils individually, in small groups and within the classroom.
- A positive, patient and resilient approach.
- The ability to build strong relationships with students.
- A proactive and adaptable attitude.
- Previous experience in tutoring, mentoring, coaching, volunteering or youth work is advantageous, but not essential .
