Pay: £13.50–£15.00 per hour, inclusive of tronc, depending on experience

Cafe Kowloon is looking for a Commis Chef / Demi Chef de Partie to join our kitchen team.

Cafe Kowloon is a modern Hong Kong-inspired restaurant with a menu centred around Cantonese flavours and techniques, live-fire cooking, wok, grill and high-quality produce.

This role would suit a chef early in their career who has good kitchen fundamentals and wants to develop their skills in a busy, professional restaurant environment.

The position and rate of pay will depend on experience.

The Role

As Commis Chef / Demi Chef de Partie, you will:

• Carry out daily mise en place and preparation

• Work alongside the Chef de Partie and senior kitchen team during service

• Cook and plate dishes consistently to the required standard

• Learn and follow recipes, specifications and kitchen procedures

• Develop confidence working across different sections of the kitchen

• Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness

• Ensure ingredients are correctly stored, labelled and rotated

• Help monitor prep levels, stock and wastage

• Assist with deliveries and general kitchen organisation

• Communicate clearly with the wider kitchen team

• Take responsibility for developing your skills and progressing within the brigade

• Previous experience in a professional kitchen

• Good basic knife and cooking skills

• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn

• Good organisation and attention to detail

• Reliable and punctual

• Able to work well as part of a team

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

• Good understanding of basic food hygiene and safe working practices

• An interest in developing your cooking skills and taking on greater responsibility

Previous experience with Cantonese, Chinese or East Asian cooking is beneficial but not essential . Training will be provided.

We are equally interested in chefs with strong fundamentals from other styles of cooking who are keen to learn.
