Job Description

Job title: Senior Data Analyst

Directorate: Strategy, Analysis & Change

Workstream: Strategy and User Insight Division

About Us

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family courts and tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our service users and colleagues, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice.  We’re looking for individuals who are committed to public service and want to make a difference in people’s lives in delivering justice. If you’re interested in developing a career with a real purpose, please apply.

About The Role

Data Analyst – User Experience and Insight

The User Experience and Insight team ensures that our understanding of user characteristics, behaviours and needs, is researched, analysed and shared in inspiring ways to inform decision making throughout HMCTS. You will support the development and deployment of a multi-disciplinary research and insight approach to create a comprehensive and effective view of our users.

The team lead the development of research and insight on users from all available sources (qualitative and quantitative) to inform what we know, supporting and analysing the development of new digital and operational solutions.

This work will be a challenging role and offers a wide range of opportunities to develop your experience whilst making a real difference to services for millions of citizens. You will join a team dedicated to developing your skills and career within a multi-disciplinary environment. The team currently contains expertise and leadership experience across social and market research, behavioural science, digital development, experimental/trials evaluation, operational research and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities

You will work on a variety of projects that require analytical thinking and hands-on coding/programming skills to generate insights on users of our services. Examples of current projects in the team include:

  • Analysis of access to justice: to ensure that citizens have access to the justice they are seeking in our courts and tribunals. This work involves the analysis and modelling of service data alongside protected characteristics and geodemographic data to measure access and identify how access to justice could be improved.
  • Contributing insight to drive service improvements: service teams in each jurisdiction of HMCTS regularly review data from a range of sources to better understand how they can improve and better serve citizens. There will be opportunities to contribute insight to these discussions and thus play a significant role in improving the quality of our services.
  • The role presents a rare opportunity to analyse the characteristics and behaviour of a wide variety of people, at scale, to inform the development of new services and continually improve the customer experience in the operational business. The parties involved in cases, or potential cases, range from the individual money claimant seeking to recover funds from a company to vulnerable social security appellants, or the victims of crime.
  • You will support the development of analysis across the organisation, building relationships and collaborating with other analytical teams across the department to fill data and knowledge gaps and build on best practice.
