Greener and Cleaner is a grassroots, community-led charity based in Bromley. Founded in 2019 by local residents, we support people and organisations to take practical action on climate change and sustainable living at home, at work and in their communities.
We have grown from a volunteer-led initiative into a thriving community charity, with over 7,000 members and around 90 active volunteers. We work collaboratively with our team, volunteers and wider community to create inclusive, non-judgemental spaces that encourage learning, participation and positive behaviour change
About the role:
We are looking for a Head of Finance & Operations to join our senior leadership team and provide leadership across the charity's finance and internal operations.
This is a broad and influential role, working closely with the CEO, Board of Trustees and wider team. You’ll be responsible for financial management alongside governance, risk, people processes and organisational operations, helping ensure we have the strong systems and infrastructure needed to deliver our strategy effectively and sustainably.
You'll also oversee our fundraising strategy and line manage a small team across finance, administration and fundraising.
What you'll do:
- Take the lead on the charity’s financial management and strategy, including budgets, cash flow forecasting, management accounts and financial reporting, ensuring we meet charity accounting standards including SORP
- Provide oversight of key financial processes including payroll, pensions, supplier payments, invoicing, funding reports, investments and year-end accounts
- Take responsibility for our governance framework, including Charity Commission requirements, GDPR and information governance, and act as our Data Protection Officer
- Support effective and consistent people processes across the charity, including recruitment, onboarding, offboarding and HR administration
- Help develop and improve our organisational systems, business planning, project management and performance monitoring
- Work closely with our fundraising team to develop our fundraising strategy and monitor progress against agreed targets
- Line manage and support a small team across finance, administration and fundraising
What we're looking for:
We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable and collaborative, with a methodical approach and the confidence to work across a varied senior-level portfolio.
You will ideally bring:
- Experience in an operations, business or organisational management role
- Strong financial management experience, including budgeting, cash flow and financial controls
- Experience of governance, risk and regulatory compliance, ideally within a charity or not-for-profit environment
- A track record of developing and improving organisational systems, processes and ways of working
- Experience of managing and supporting people to work effectively as a team
- Confidence working collaboratively with a CEO, senior leadership team, Board, budget holders and fundraising teams
- A good understanding of charity governance, GDPR and information governance, alongside a collaborative, non-judgemental approach and enthusiasm for Greener and Cleaner’s mission
Role details:
- Flexible hours, preferably worked over 4-5 days and including Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays
- Hybrid working between home, The Greener and Cleaner Hub and Contingent Works in Bromley
- Permanent PAYE contract
