Data Steward
We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Steward (Grade - 9) to join the Data & Analytics team on a permanent basis.
Team Overview:
The Data & Analytics team is responsible for delivering comprehensive data management and analytics services to Elexon and the energy market. This team will lead Elexon's data strategy and governance initiatives, ensuring robust data standards, data security and compliance standards are maintained.
The function is also accountable for the development and the delivery of a number of data products/platforms (e.g. DIP, DAH, DAP) capable to ingest, store, process, analyse and share data seamlessly within the organisation and with external stakeholders.
Job Purpose:The Data Steward will join a team at Elexon in ensuring our data strategy operates against industry data best practices and provides an environment on which trust can built for the integirty of data and the management of data.
The Data Steward is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and quality of Elexon’s data. This role defines data standards, implements data governance policies, and critically works with all departments to maintain data integrity. A strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and a deep understanding of data management principles is a must. Develop and implement data governance policies and standards to ensure data quality and consistency.
Key Responsibilities:- Define and implement data archiving strategies to preserve data for legal, regulatory and business purposes.
- Define data ownership and accountability across the organization
- Create and manage the enterprise-wide data catalog
- Oversee the creation, maintenance and use of metadata
- Implement and maintain security protocols to protect data from unauthorised access and breaches
- Establish and enforce data governance and policy standards
- Regularly audit data access and usage to ensure compliance with policies and standards
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and identify data quality issues
- Conduct data profiling and quality assessments to identify data discrepancies and inconsistencies
- Monitor the performance of data cleansing and remediation plans for data integrity
- Provide data training and awareness to employees, improving employee capabilities and competency to understand data and there controls – inclusive of knowledge for data protection laws and regulations such as GDPR
- Stay up-to-date with data management best practices and industry trends
- Support data integration and migration projects
- Participate in data protection and privacy initiatives
- Develop and track key data quality metrics to measure improvements over time
- Establish and manage data lifecycle governance processes, including data creation, storage, use and disposal.
Capabilities and competencies:
Critical:
- Experience working in a data-focused role, with the ability to apply and communicate Data Best Practice (DBP) guidance effectively.
- Proficient in documenting data processes, data lineage and data management activities
- Excellent data analysis techniques
- Capable of creating and providing operational design and policy standards
- Good understanding of the Elexon data integration patterns
- Good understanding of business data models for internal and external stakeholders
- Expertise in data profiling, data cleansing and data validation techniques
- Can identify impacts of data (or bad data)
- Exposure to a range visualization and reporting techniques to drive data integrity standards.
