Community Centre Officer

London – covering community centres in London and Essex

£33,580 - £35,347 per year Plus £600 car allowance

37.5 hours per week

We are looking for a Community Centre Officer to join our dedicated Partnerships team in London. In this role, you will be responsible for day to day management of three community centres across Hackney,Tower Hamlets and Basildon. You will also track repairs of two additional centres in Hackney.

This varied role involves significant amount of admin work, Health & Safety and compliance responsibility across our community centres, ensuring the centres remain safe, complaint and welcoming spaces. You will also work closely with local community groups, who are using the centres to deliver their activities. A typical day might involve raising invoices while organising the space for hire or responding to an urgent repair. This role involves regular travel between community centres, with a significant amount of independent working.

The role of Community Centre Officer will include:

  • Overseeing the day to day running of the community centres including being a responsible key holder and liaising with users and hirers to ensure reliable opening and closing of centres.
  • Monitoring the standard of cleaning and building maintenance in all centres, reporting any issues, repairs or areas of concern
  • Maintaining accurate records and bookings
  • Delivering, improving and maintaining effective and efficient administration systems
  • Communicating effectively and maintaining good working relationships with colleagues, community groups and centre users
  • Supporting the team in ensuring regulatory, building compliance and other standards are continuously met or exceeded to mitigate risk to the business
  • Raising invoices to centre users ensuring they are accurate according to current hire rates and any policies supporting the free use of facilities

Skills and experiences:

  • NVQ3 in relevant area (e.g. business administration, customer service) or knowledge and ability at an equivalent level
  • Qualified or willing to work towards the Institute of Safety and Health (IOSH) certificate
  • Recent experience in a similar role
  • Some experience working in a customer services environment
  • Working knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation
  • Proven experience of working to deadlines and prioritising work loads
  • Ability to work independently and use own initiative
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer care skills
  • Ability to stay calm and constructive in emergencies
  • Frequent travel is a requirement of the role, therefore a full valid driving licence and access to vehicle is essential
