DT Technician Vacancy - Renowned School in Hammersmith
A welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Hammersmith is seeking a skilled, practical and enthusiastic Design Technician to join its supportive Design & Technology department. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised individual with strong practical skills who enjoys working in a creative educational environment and is committed to supporting high-quality teaching and learning.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and students to ensure that workshops, classrooms, tools, machinery and materials are fully prepared, safe and ready for practical lessons. The role will suit someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards, has excellent attention to detail and can confidently manage a busy and varied workload.
Key Responsibilities
Preparing classrooms, workshops, tools, machinery, equipment and materials for practical lessons and demonstrations.
Supporting teachers and students during practical activities, projects and examinations where required.
Maintaining, servicing and safely operating workshop machinery, tools and equipment.
Preparing, modifying and producing resources and materials in line with teachers' requirements.
Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering, storage and organisation of materials and equipment.
Carrying out routine checks and reporting maintenance, repair or safety issues promptly.
Supporting the department in maintaining high standards of Health & Safety and ensuring safe working practices are followed.
Keeping workshops, classrooms, storage areas and equipment clean, organised and ready for use.
Assisting with risk assessments, COSHH procedures and other relevant Health & Safety requirements.
Providing practical advice to staff and students on the safe and effective use of tools, machinery and equipment.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Previous experience as a Design, DT, Workshop or Technology Technician is desirable.
Strong practical and technical skills with confidence using a range of tools, machinery and workshop equipment.
Good knowledge of Health & Safety procedures within a practical or educational environment.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
The ability to work independently and collaboratively with teaching staff.
A proactive, reliable and flexible approach to supporting the needs of a busy school department.
Good communication and interpersonal skills when working with staff and students.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Role Details
Position: Design Technician
Location: Hammersmith, London
Hours: 35 hours per week, term time plus inset days
Contract: Permanent
Working Hours: 8:00am – 4:00pm
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
