A successful and forward-thinking school in Newham is seeking an experienced and strategic HR Manager to lead and manage all aspects of human resources. This is a pivotal role supporting staff wellbeing, organisational effectiveness and compliance, ensuring the academy attracts, develops and retains high-quality professionals.
About the Role
The HR Manager will oversee the full employee lifecycle, working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Trust to deliver effective HR strategy and operational excellence. The postholder will ensure compliance with employment law, safeguarding requirements and Trust policies, while promoting a positive and inclusive working culture.
You will act as a trusted advisor to leaders and staff, providing professional guidance on recruitment, employee relations, performance management and workforce development.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage all HR operations including recruitment, onboarding and safer recruitment compliance.
Provide expert advice on employee relations matters, including absence, capability, conduct and grievance procedures.
Oversee payroll liaison, contracts, variations and staff records in line with statutory requirements.
Ensure compliance with safeguarding, employment law and Trust policies.
Support performance management processes, appraisal systems and staff development initiatives.
Monitor workforce data, producing reports to inform leadership decisions and workforce planning.
Promote staff wellbeing, engagement and a positive organisational culture.
Contribute to strategic planning and organisational development across the academy.
The Ideal Candidate
Proven experience in HR management, ideally within education or the public sector.
Strong knowledge of UK employment law and safer recruitment practices.
CIPD qualification (Level 5 or above desirable).
Experience advising senior leaders on complex HR matters.
Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
High levels of discretion, integrity and professionalism.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic school environment.
Legal right to work in the UK.
