HVAC Commissioning Engineer
We are seeking a HVAC Commissioning Engineer to work for our client on customers’ sites, predominantly in and around London.
Though the employer’s base is in Thetford, Norfolk, this is a site-based role, which is offered on a full-time permanent and employed basis and comes with a salary which is negotiable depending on relevant skills and experience. A company vehicle, mobile phone, and laptop computer will be provided, in addition to a credit card for work expenses. Working hours are Mon – Friday 5 days per week. Start and finish times depend upon the site of working being worked at, but a standard contracted working week is 40 hours total, approximately 8 hours per day. The Company Our client has been designing, manufacturing and installing their products into the building services industry for over 50 years. They also provide ongoing maintenance support contracts and services to their customers who are based across the UK and Ireland. They have a workforce of over 120 employees. The Job The role of the Commissioning Engineer involves travelling to different construction sites to commission the company’s range of HVAC products. These sites are predominantly in London, so you’ll be expected to plan your own time and routes to get to and from sites – whether you take your company van, or use public transport is up to you. Commissioning jobs can last for as little as two days or as long as three weeks; and the employer offers you the flexibility to decide, depending on site location, whether you travel home each night or stay overnight nearby the site to complete the job. Working as part of a five-engineer team, reporting to the Site Services Manager you’ll be mainly attending jobs on your own. The products you’ll be commissioning are both mechanical and electrical in nature, and a laptop computer will be used to configure/program. The range of products that require commissioning include the following, and training will be provided on the nature of these:• Hard wired electrical control panels.
• Addressable programmable control panels.
• Fire and Smoke dampers.
• Fan coil units and VAV. You’ll meet with customers (M&E Contractors, Construction Project Managers) and work with them to ensure that commissioning work for pre-installed products is carried out in a safe and organised manner. Access to products will be utilising either a step ladder, platform etc, which is usually provided by the customer. The sites will be predominantly in the UK, with a vast majority being in London. However from time to time there will be some overseas travel too. The majority of the work is carried out in normal working hours, but working away from home in the working week will be a regular occurrence, and there will be some unsociable hours from time to time. Overtime will be paid for extra hours worked. Though the vast majority of the work is commissioning of new products within near complete construction sites, there may also be some maintenance work involving servicing of products in buildings such as factories, hospitals, schools, commercial properties etc. Requirements We are open to hearing from both experienced Commissioning Engineers with an Electrical bias, as well as less experienced Electrical Engineers or Commercial Electricians who have the desire to become a skilled and independent site-based Commissioning Engineer. • Minimum 4 years’ experience working as either an electrically biased engineer, commissioning engineer or commercial electrician
• A full UK driving licence with no driving convictions, and no more than 6 points
• A CSCS card or willingness to obtain one (which will be paid for by the employer)
• Currently lives within the following counties (London, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire or Hertfordshire) and is happy with UK-wide travel as well as regular travel into London
• Is a calm, adaptable and self-sufficient person who enjoys and is capable of managing own time and travel arrangements
• Great client-facing skills; personable, polite, professional and clear communicator
• Enjoys working independently
• Deals well with unexpected issues, has a logical approach to problem-solving How to Apply Please apply to Kate Howes through our website or alternatively, you can email a copy of your CV to [email protected] We aim to respond with specific feedback to every applicant via email within 14 days.
