The Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine is seeking a motivated lecturer in Physiology Education. As the appointed candidate, you will be an enthusiastic educator with an outstanding record of excellence and the ability to inspire and innovate in higher education. You will provide academic and pastoral support to students and work closely with colleagues across the Faculty and wider university.
About The Role
We are seeking a motivated Lecturer to provide leadership in teaching excellence, deliver high-quality teaching across our undergraduate programmes, and undertake high-quality educational research.
Initially, the post holder will support the development and delivery of undergraduate teaching, with a particular focus on physiology, the cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous system.
You will work closely with the Head of Department, programme leads, and the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Bioscience Education to enhance programme content, introduce assessment innovations, and facilitate their delivery.
We welcome imaginative and interdisciplinary applicants with an extensive teaching profile and a track record of innovative pedagogy. The role suits a skilled educator with experience of undergraduate education in the physiological sciences and the potential to build a research career in education. The ability to teach undergraduate physiology and neuroscience is desirable.
The successful candidate will be passionate about bioscience education and able to inspire the next generation of bioscientists. You will be an enthusiastic educator who provides academic and pastoral support to students and works closely with colleagues.
The post holder will:
- devote 80% of their allocated time to education excellence
- lead, develop and deliver education, with the initial primary focus being on undergraduate and postgraduate physiology modules.
- teach, provide student support, lead and contribute to education innovation, undertake administrative and educational duties as directed by the Head of Teaching Department
- develop their teaching portfolios over time to reflect both departmental needs and their personal areas of interest
The post holder will be accountable for quality assurance of their own teaching and for peer review of others, sustaining and developing high-quality education. We expect academic citizenship through activities that underpin educational excellence. You will also promote education research within the Teaching Department and Faculty, sharing best practice and learning from others.

Successful candidates will be appointed to our Academic Education Pathway (AEP), which allows career progression to Professor based on contribution to education and scholarship. Staff on the AEP have an indicative 20% of time for education-focused scholarship.
In addition, there may be opportunity to deliver short term (6 weeks) Physiology teaching at our partner University in Shenzhen, China.
This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
