This high-performing Croydon secondary school is looking for an English Graduate Teaching Assistant to join its team in September 2025. As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils in English across KS3 and KS4, helping them reach their academic potential while also encouraging them to find joy in literature and creativity. This role will allow you to apply your academic background, share your enthusiasm for English and gain first-hand classroom experience.
Key Responsibilities
As an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Support teachers in delivering engaging English lessons across KS3 and KS4
- Provide 1:1 and small group academic support in reading, writing, and analysis
- Help students stay engaged and motivated in their learning
- Assist with classroom organisation, lesson preparation, and behaviour management
- Encourage pupils to explore creative outlets such as reading, debating, and writing clubs
- Contribute to wider school life through enrichment activities and mentoring
Who We’re Looking For
To thrive as an English Graduate Teaching Assistant, you should have:
- A 2:1 or higher in English Literature, English Language, or a related subject
- A genuine passion for English and for sharing that passion with young people
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A proactive, empathetic, and resilient attitude
- An interest in progressing into teacher training or a long-term career in education
- Some experience working with young people (desirable but not essential)
