SEN Teaching Assistant - Primary School in Camden, North...
We are a well-established and inclusive primary school located in the heart of Camden, North London, seeking to appoint a committed and highly motivated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join our dedicated support team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about inclusive education and supporting pupils with additional needs to reach their full potential in a structured and nurturing environment.
Our school serves a diverse community and prides itself on maintaining high expectations for all pupils, regardless of background or ability. We work hard to ensure that every child feels safe, supported, and valued, and we are looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant who shares these values and is committed to making a positive difference in children’s lives.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will work closely with pupils who have identified special educational needs, including but not limited to Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), speech and language needs, ADHD, social and emotional needs, and moderate learning difficulties. You may be required to provide one-to-one support or work with small groups, depending on individual education plans (EHCPs).
You will work under the guidance of the class teacher and the school’s SENCo to deliver targeted interventions, promote independence, and support pupils both academically and emotionally throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored support to pupils with special educational needs within the classroom setting
Support pupils during structured learning activities and less formal times such as playtime and lunch
Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
Encourage positive behaviour and support emotional regulation strategies
Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, external professionals, and parents where appropriate
Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and contribute to review meetings
Support pupils in developing independence, confidence, and social skills
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a professional, patient, and empathetic individual who demonstrates a strong understanding of SEN support within a primary school setting. Experience working with children with additional needs is highly desirable, although training and support will be provided for the right candidate.
You should:
Have experience supporting children with SEN in a school or similar setting
Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Be calm, resilient, and adaptable
Show a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Be able to work effectively as part of a team
Hold a relevant qualification (desirable but not essential)
What We Offer
A supportive and collaborative school environment
Ongoing professional development and SEN-specific training
Clear leadership and guidance from an experienced SENCo
Well-resourced classrooms and intervention spaces
Opportunities to progress within SEN support and education
This is a term-time position, suitable for candidates seeking a long-term role within a school that values inclusion, professional development, and pupil wellbeing.
