DT Technician
Job Title: Design & Technology (DT) Technician Location: Ruislip Contract Type: Term Time + 1 Week (39 weeks) Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8.00am – 3.45pm (30 minutes unpaid lunch) Friday, 8.00am – 3.30pm (30 minutes unpaid lunch) Salary: (£26,233 – £27,263 actual salary / £30,288 – £31,611 FTE) About the Role We are seeking an enthusiastic and proactive DT Technician to join our thriving Design & Technology Department. With access to state-of-the-art facilities completed in 2022—including three fully equipped workshops, two computer suites, and dedicated areas for 3D printing and laser cutting—this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting innovative teaching and learning in DT. Key Responsibilities Prepare and organise materials, tools, and equipment for lessons across KS3–KS5, including woods, metals, plastics, and mixed media. Support staff and students during practical sessions, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment. Set up, operate, and maintain a range of equipment including traditional workshop machinery, 3D printers, laser cutters, and other digital manufacturing technologies. Carry out routine maintenance and safety checks on all machinery and tools, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. Assist in the development of new projects and prototypes, offering technical expertise to support innovative design work. Manage stock levels, order materials and equipment, and maintain accurate inventory records. Contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised environment within workshops and preparation areas. Support extra-curricular and enrichment activities such as clubs, exhibitions, or competitions when required. Liaise with teaching staff to develop resources and advise on technical feasibility of projects. Participate in regular training and CPD to stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practice. Person Specification Essential Skills & Experience: Practical knowledge of working with hard materials (woods, metals, plastics). Competence in the set-up, safe use, and maintenance of workshop equipment. Awareness of health and safety standards and risk assessments in a workshop/educational setting. Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills and a willingness to support students and staff in a positive, patient manner.Desirable Skills & Experience: Experience of working in a school or educational environment. Knowledge of new technologies such as laser cutting, CNC machining, and 3D printing. An understanding of basic engineering, electronics, or mechanics.
